Abstract

253,932. International General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitats Ges.). June 22, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Protective or safety devices, auxiliary.-The field of a separately excited dynamo-electrio machine is reversed upon overload by means responsive to a predetermined overload. As shown, the field winding b of an alternator a is supplied from an exciter d naving a shunt winding e and a differential series winding i normally short-circuited by a switch k. A resistance g normally shunted by a switch h may be provided in series with the exciter shunt field winding. An overload relay l supplied from a current transformer n causes the operating coils of the switches k, h to be energized simultaneously or otherwise when the alternator is overloaded. Back contacts are provided on one or both of the switches k, h to energize the actuating coil of the main circuit-breaker m. If the exciter d is excited by an auxiliary machine, this auxiliary machine may oe provided with a series differential winding. The field weakening resistance g may be dispensed with, in which case the shunt field circuit is completely opened upon overload.
