Abstract
253,618. Minerals Separation, Ltd., (Minerals Separation North American Corporation). March 20, 1925. Flotation apparatus. - In apparatus for froth flotation, a mixture of pulp and air is delivered to a zone of low pressure below a rotary agitator in an agitation chamber. The apparatus shown comprises a series of agitation boxes A each having a false bottom A<1> formed with a central hole above which is mounted an agitator B comprising top and bottom plates B<3>, B<5> and curved blades B<4> and driven by a vertical shaft B<1>. Baffles G and grids H are provided above the agitator. Pulp is supplied through a launder E and open feed box D and passes with the entrained air to the space A<6>; the froth which forms in the quiet zone above the grids H passes over an adjustable weir K<1> to a launder V with the aid of a paddle T, while the remaining pulp passes through an opening L and over an adjustable weir M to an open chamber P from which a pipe R<1> leads to the next box in the series. A board S is provided to pass the froth towards the weir K<1>. Air may be supplied beneath the agitator B through a pipe W if desired. In a modification, a spitzkasten is interposed between the box A and launder V: and in a further modification. there are no grids forming a quiet zone in the boxes A but the froth is formed in an adjacent spitzkasten, the pulp passing to the next box A from a compartment in the spitzkasten provided with an adjustable weir over which the pulp falls and entrains air. Specifications 6896/10 and 10312/14 are referred to.
