Abstract

253,410. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Oct. 29, 1925. Vacuum tubes.-The part of the surface of a photo-electric cell which carries the light-sensitive material is roughened. Small glass particles 6, having the same coefficient of expansion as the glass bulb, and capable of passing through a 40 mesh sieve made of wires of 0.0082 inch diameter, but retained by a 60 mesh sieve made of wires of 0.0067 inch diameter, are introduced into the bulb which is then heated and revolved slowly, so that the particles are distributed evenly and fused to the surface, a space opposite the anode 4 being left for a window 7. The bulb is subsequently evacuated, a coating of silver, is applied to the roughened surface and a coating of potassium is applied to the silver, and. formed by passing a glow discharge in hydrogen. The hydrogen is afterwards replaced by argon.
