Abstract
A transport system comprising a moving carousel to which vehicle units are removably attached, whereby they are transported by the carousel at a high level above the ground between dedicated stations or embarkation points. The vehicle units are also capable of moving under their own power once removed from the carousel. Preferably the carousel is in the form of a track, conveyor belt or magnetic transport system.
Description
Crowflies transport system The 'Crowflies' transport system invention is a combination of a detachable gondola technology used at ski resorts, combined with a lightweight motor vehicle that would preferably not run on fossil fuels (e.g. the Airpod').
Each motor vehicle or Pod, would be fitted with a lifting point that can be used to carry the Pod at high level over existing roads, rails, rivers, fields, etc., carrying the passengers at speed from one point outside of a major city to a point close to the city centre, or from any location to another.
Combining the latest Gondola technology with a non-pollutant vehicle such as the Airpod car, would allow commuters to be independent travellers, yet part of a super-quick public transport system, with no road maintenance costs, little staffing, few moving parts, stress free passengers and no collision type accidents.
By utilising the central reservations above busy arterial roads, the routes could be established in a matter of months not years, with minimal disruption to the commuter traffic and at a fraction of the cost of rail or tram transport. This system would be able to carry the cars into the centre of a city such as London -cheaply, silently, extremely safely and with zero CO2 emissions.
Large car park style terminals could be located outside of the city or town, where customers would park their family cars and catch a Pod car to work, for a small hire2 cost. When they reach their destination they can drive freely around the city, just as a normal car, parking3 as normal and returning to the same terminal once complete to catch a ride back to their family car.
It offers all congested cities the promise of efficient, private transportation, one that does not stop at other stations, does not get stuck in surface traffic, but actually combines with each passenger's own commuter schedule. The 'Crowflies' transport system can be powered by clean energy sources.
Crowflies' transport system would efficiently reach speeds of up to 40 mph, which is 3 times faster than current average commuter traffic speeds. The system would also be almost silent, produce zero CO2 and would keep the passenger warm and dry during the journey. The system could carry up to 4000 passengers / hour. The system can be built safely, cheaply and efficiently, at a minute fraction of the cost of road or rail4 and with very little maintenance costs and could even make a profit over the long term Airpod is an engineering company that's been developing zero pollution engines since the early 90s. The Airpod has a 175 litre storage tank of compressed air that you refill with an external pump or with an electric motor that can 'refuel' the car while its in motion. This first model reaches a top speed of 43 mph (70 km/h), making it best suited for transporting people or small goods around city streets. One tank lasts over 125 miles (200 km) and takes only two minutes to refuel.
Each Pod could have a credit card swipe machine so there would be no cash transactions, when the Pods return they would be recharged ready for the next day.
The same lifting mechanism could also be used for vertical parking systems, freeing up hundreds of parking meter spaces.
4 Cost would be equivalent to 0.1% of the HS2 rail scheme
Claims (3)
- Claims 1. 'Crowflies' transport system comprises of a plurality of individual vehicle units and a detachable gondola carousel, wherein in use, the carousel is continuously moving and each individual vehicle unit can access or egress the system at designated points on the route.
- 2. The 'Crowflies' transport system as stated in claim 1 above, wherein the carousel may be a track means or a conveyor belt, or magnetic transport system, or any system that is able to carry a detachable vehicle from one location to another.
- 3. The 'Crowflies' transport system as stated in claim 1 above would be able to transport both fossil fuel or a non-fossil fuel vehicles.
