Abstract

A height adjustable barbecue comprising a charcoal pan, and a grill that are supported by a central threaded bar which supports them at their central axis. The charcoal pan and grill are threaded onto the threaded bar, and the desired height of the charcoal pan and grill is achieved by rotating the pan and grill, which allows the pan and grill to be wound up or down the threaded bar. The ability to alter the vertical position of the pan and grill, allows the user to position the pan at the optimum cooking height, and the grill at the optimum cooking height in relation to the charcoal pan dependent upon the food being cooked. The barbecue may have a cover/lid that can also be raised and lowered via its attachment to the threaded bar along its central axis (fig 3). The charcoal pan, grill and cover/lid may have handles to assist in the rotation of the sections; the threaded bar is freestanding and supported by feet. The grill may have removable semi circular griddles.

Description

This invention relates to a freestanding barbecue.

A common problem when using barbecues seems to be the difficulty in controlling the rate of cooking. That and achieving a safe and comfortable height at which to use it.

This invention uses a central threaded bar to support both the grill itself and the charcoal pan. In doing so this allows both to be raised or lowered variously by rotation to achieve the desired cooking height and the optimum position over the charcoal for whatever food is to be grilled. The screw thread arrangement permits a very fine adjustment to the height of the cooking food and therefore a fine adjustment to the temperature and rate of cooking. The rotation of the grill also allows for food to be moved over hotter areas of the coals without the need to handle it.

The following descriptions should be read in conjunction with the drawing included; Figure 1. shows the central premise of the invention. Both the grill and the charcoal pan can be rotated in either direction using the handles to raise or lower each section respectively. They are supported centrally by the threaded bar around which they revolve.

Figure 3. shows one possible arrangement with the stand and a cover/ lid which can be raised and lowered in the same manner as the principle elements.

1. Claims 1. A rotating barbecue with adjustable cooking position and grilling height based on a central threaded bar.
2. 2. A barbecue according to claim 1 with circular rotating grill and charcoal pans both finely variable in position by winding up or down the threaded bar which supports them at their central axis.
3. 3. Rotating grill according to claim 2 including semi-circular removable griddles to allow for cleaning.
