Abstract
A device to bevel or chamfer the end of a plastic pipe has a tapered or conical body. A replaceable metal rasp plate 5 may be bent to suit then inserted into the body and located in place using cut out portions 6 on the rasp engaging with projections 4 provided on the body. These are provided to prevent the rasp spinning inside the body. The device may be connected to an electric drill via connection 3 and may be rotated against the end of a poly pipe. The angled rasp abrades the pipe to create a chamfer on the end of the pipe. Objectives of the device are minimising damage to the seals used on such pipes and preventing injury to the hands of a user.
Description
Description -Funnel Rasp
This invention relates to a device for chamfering poly pipes.
When a poly pipe is chamfered typically a hand file is used to chamfer the edges of a poly pipe to minimise damage to the sealant rubber collar. However the conventional use of a hand file is time consuming and can cause a poor connection due to uneven filing and can also cause the rubber connection to pullout. Chamfering by hand can also cause injury to the person chamfering the poly pipe. To overcome this problem the invention was designed to ensure an even chamfered surface around the outer circumference of the poly pipe which will ensure a good connection and will minimise the damage to the rubber seal and reduce injury to hands.
The tapered shape to the funnel will ensure a good fit for the poly pipe into the funnel and ensure that the outer circumference of the poly pipe sits directly onto the rasp plate which is notched to give an abrasive surface and ensure even chamfering. The rasp plate is insert able and removable which will provide longevity to the product and ensure an even chamfered edge with each use.
The rasp plate wilt have small square cut outs at the outer ends of the plate which when pulled round to meet will then slot into the funnel and clip over a corresponding raised square notch within the funnel, this will ensure that when the funnel is spinning the rasp plate will remain immobile and chamfer effectively.
The base of the funnel will have a hole which is threaded and ensure that the funnel can be attached to a power tool such as battery powered drill which will spin the funnel and chamfer the outer surface of the poiy pipe.
The following reference numerals correspond with the numerals on the enclosed drawings Reference numeral 1) shows the top of the tapered funnel which allows the end of a poly pipe to slot into and rest within which will then allow the outer edge of the poly pipe to be chamfered.
Reference numeral 2) shows the base of the tapered funnel.
Reference numeral 3) shows the threaded section which allows a drill attachment to be twisted on which then enables a power tool to spin the device and chamfer the outer surface of the poly pipe.
Reference numeral 4) shows the raised square notches on the inside of the funnel these raised square notches allow the corresponding square cut outs on the rasp plate to slot over and ensures that the rasp plate stays in place and doesn't spin when the device is in motion ensuring an even chamfering.
Reference numeral 5) shows the rasp plate which is abrasive.
Reference numeral 6) shows the cut out squares on the rasp plate, these cut out squares fit over the corresponding raised notches within the main funnel, and ensures that when the rasp plate is slotted into the funnel the rasp plate cannot spin or slip when in use.
Reference numeral 7) shows the abrasive edge on the rasp plate, this abrasive edge chamfers the outer surface of the poly pipe when the funnel rasp is in use.
