Abstract
252,668. New Process Multi-Castings Co., (Assignees of Wood, J. R.). May 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Moulding-machines; flasks.- Machines of the roll-over type have means for pressing and jarring the cope and drag, for drawing and swinging aside the pattern and for assembling the finished mould. The cope 40 is mounted on members 34, 39, Fig. 5, trunnioned in slides 18, 19 which are adapted to move vertically on pillars 11, 14. A bolt 55, Fig. 6, is arranged in the slide 19 to hold the cope in the position shown in Fig. 5 or in the inverted position. A pattern-plate 47 is arranged to swing and move a limited distance axially on a headed pin 44 carried by the member 34. Filling boxes 88, 89, Fig. 1, are pivotally carried by the slides 18, 19. A counterbalanced pressure head 72, Fig. 5, is trunnioned to yokes 16, 15 on the pillars 11, 14 which also carry hooks 20, 21 for supporting the slides 18, 19 and cams 24 for holding the hooks out of action. In use the plate 47, drag 54, and filling box 88 are moved into position over the cope 40 which is held up by the hooks 20. The head 72 is swung aside, the drag is filled with sand, the head 72 brought into position as shown in Fig. 5 and air is admitted to the cylinder 65, by a valve 71, Fig. 1, which acts automatically, first to press and then, if desired, to jolt the drag a definite number of times. The table 67 is then lowered, the head 72 and box 88 are swung aside, a bottom board is placed on the drag and secured by clamps 84 carried by the cope. The bolt 55 is then withdrawn, the cope &c. inverted, the box 89 swung into position, the cope is filled with sand pressed and jolted in the manner of, but preferably not to the same extent as, the drag, as described in Specification 253,453. The clamps are then disengaged and the drag lowered away from the pattern plate 47 which is thus also drawn from the cope-mould which is supported in the cope by members 86, Fig. 5, as described in Specification 252,669. The plate 47 is then swung aside, the drag lifted by the table 67 and attached to the cope by means of a latch. The members 86 are finally withdrawn and the assembled mould halyes on the bottom board are lowered away from the cope and drag. Springs 28 are provided to give a quick downward movement to the flask in jarring. In pouring the mould may be held together by a jacket as described in Specification 252,670. The trunnions of the members 34, 39, Fig. 5, are provided with roller and ball bearings 30, 36.
