Abstract
The invention relates to a cladding support device 1 that comprises of a base member 2, an engagement member 3A,3B projecting from one side of the base member to engage the edge of a length of cladding on a building frame and to space, in use, the base member from the frame, a releasable fixing member 4,5 projecting from said one side of the base member to releasably fix, in use, the base member the building frame and to space the base member from the frame, and a cladding board guide member 6 projecting from said one side of the base member towards, in use, the building frame to support one end of a length of cladding, the distance between the guide member and the engagement member being the desired distance a length of cladding board is exposed when overlapped by a board above it. In use the releasable fixing member can be secured to a building frame with the engagement member engaging the edge of a length of cladding fixed on the frame, and one end of a length of new cladding can be placed on the guide member whilst the other end is held by an installer.
Description
TITLE: Cladding Support Device The present invention relates to a cladding support device.
Many buildings have a timber frame clad in either length of timber boards or fibre cement boards such as Cedral (trade mark) produced by Marley Etemit. Such boards are often 4 metres or so in length so they need to held at either end usually by twO people whilst the boards are secured to the timber frame, and it can be time consuming spacing the boards at the correct position so that the overlap between boards is kept uniform.
The invention seeks to provide a device to allow a single person to clad a building and which also makes it easier to space the boards at the correct position so that the overlap between boards is kept uniform.
According to the present invention there is provided a cladding support device comprising: a) a base member, b) an engagement member projecting from one side of the base mcml,er to cngage the edge of a length of cladding on a building frame and to space, in use, the base member from the frame, c) a releasable fixing member projecting from said one side of the base member to releasably fix, in use, the base member the building frame and to space the base member from the frame, and d) a cladding board guide member projecting from said one side of the base member towards, in use, the building frame to support one end of a length of cladding, the distance between the guide member and the engagement member being the desired distance a length of cladding board is exposed when overlapped by a board above it, in use the releasable fixing member can be secured to a building frame with the engagement member engaging the edge of a length of cladding fixed on a building frame, and one end of a length a new cladding can be placed on the guide member whilst the other end is help by an installer allowing the installer.
Preferably the guide member is a roller. Preferably the distance between the guide member and the engagement member is adjustable to accommodate different widths of cladding.
The releasable fixing member may be an aperture through the fixing member to receive a screw or nail.
The engagement member may provide a pair of spaced legs extending from the base member.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a perspective view of the device in use cladding a building.
Rthrring to the drawing there is shown a cladding support device 1 for applying cladding boards X to a wooden frame of timbers Y on the outside of a building Z. Frame of timbers Y and board X are well known in the art as mentioned above.
Device I has an elongate tubular base member 2.
An engagement member in the form of a pair of L-shaped legs 3A,3B is provided projecting from one side of the base member to engage under the edge A of a length of cladding X on the building frame Y and to space, in use, the base member 2 from the frame Y. Legs 3A,38 are at one end of the base member 2.
A releasable fixing member in the form of a hollow straight leg 4 and screw or nail 5 is provided projecting from said one side of the base member 2 to releasably fix, in use, the base member the building frame and to space the base member from the frame. Leg 4 is at the other end of base member 2.
A cladding guide member in the form of a roller 6 is provided projecting from said one side of the base member towards, in use, the building frame to support one end of a length of cladding, the distance D between the guide roller and the engagement member line between legs 3A,3B (or edge A) being the desired distance a length of cladding is exposed when overlapped by a board above it. Rotter 6 has a threaded shaft 7 and wing nutS which passes through one or three apertures 9A,9B,9C, or 9D to secure the roller to the base member 2.
The distance D between the guide roller and the line between legs 3A,3B or edge A is adjustable to accommodate different widths of cladding, by selecting which aperture 9A,9B,9C or 9D threaded shaft 7 passes through.
In use the releasable fixing member can be secured to a building frame with the engagement member engaging the edge of a length of cladding board X already fixed on a building frame, and one end of a length a new cladding X' can be placed on the roller whilst the other end is held by an installer allowing the installer to secure the board X' to the frame Y. The device always ensures the cladding board is in the correct position relative to a board below it. The device allows a single person to apply cladding board to a frame so saving labour cost. If desired two devices 1 may be used at any one time to support both ends of a cladding board whilst the cladding board is secured to a frame Y. The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the fixing member could be a clamp, and the roller could simply be a shaft on which an edge of cladding board slides.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
