Abstract
A composite metallic and plastic bag suitable for containing foodstuffs for cooking on a barbecue or similar heating utensil comprises an envelope open at one end being formed from a back layer of metal foil 1 and a front layer of clear plastic 2. While it can be made in any shape or size, a typical bag according to the present invention will be approximately 350 mm long and 240 mm wide. The front and back layers will typically be a heat welded together 3, 4 & 5 and so the plastic front layer will be required to have the quality of adhesively welding to another material without damage to said plastic. In use, the bag will typically be folded along from one side to the opposite side parallel with the open end face and can if required be further sealed by using known forms of peg or clamp. It can also be folded multiple times if a steam pressure effect is desired for the specific foodstuff.
Description
BARBECUE ROASTING BAG
This invention relates to a composite metal and plastic bag suitable for containing foodstuffs for cooking on a barbecue or similar heating utensil.
The background to the invention is that there have been numerous attempts to create a bag suitable for cooking at high temperature, of which the following are notable prior art. Our searches revealed AU2011100276 HU JIANQIANG. a bag for roasting bread, including a body and an opening, characterized in that the said mesosphere of the body of bag is a layer made of glass fiber cloth, and the inner and outer sides of the said layer are both coated with Teflon resin. Clearly this is distinguished from the present invention by means of the materials specified.
US2004025711C00K discloses an improved roasting bag for food items. The improved roasting bag contains a valve to drain fluids out of the bag and a pair of handles which are used to orient and position the bag while the fluids are draining out thereof. The invention also contains a vent slit to help facilitate the draining process. A number of different valve configurations are further disclosed. Moreover, CN2409155 DONG ZHENLU relates to a food bag, to prevent roasting contamination, which is composed of an aluminium foil, a shaped aluminium foil and a metal hole net, wherein, the shaped aluminium foil is a convex-concave aluminium foil of which surface is provided with various geometric shapes or the shaped aluminium foil is an aluminium foil of a through hole with various geometric shapes; interlayers are arranged in the food bag. This has the advantage of even roasting while it can prevent direct contact with charcoal so that harmful matters generated by coal gas roasting cannot pollute food. GEl 336701 LEVIN comprises an inner layer of paper material bonded to an outer-layer of aluminium foil and a plurality of spaced slits extending through both layers. The slits form longitudinal staggered rows on one side of the container. A method of roasting a food product comprises placing the product in the container, sealing the or each end of the container, placing the container in an oven and heating the oven. The container is placed in a pan with the perforated side lowermost to allow fat and juice to pass out of the bag. US2881078 ORITT claims a metallic foil food packaging and cooking envelope containing a food element, a pair of confronting metal foil panels of rectangular shape adhesively secured together along their edges and detned by top, bottom and side edges, said panels also being secured together along a line spaced from said bottom edge, but terminating short of said side edges to provide a recess at the bottom for receiving juices created by cooking the recess communicating with the main body of the envelope above the line, and the panels also being scored along lines spaced from the top edge and one side edge respectively to facilitate the removal of a portion or to leave an open top. The present invention intends to simplify and improve upon these forms of prior art to create a simply produced easy to use container suitable for use on a barbecue to prevent the spread boiling of food as a result of being scorched by the heat.
According to the present invention there is provided a composite metallic and transparent plastic envelope open at one end being formed from a back layer of metal foil and a front layer of clear plastic. While it can be made in any shape or size, a typical bag according to the present invention will be approximately 350 mm long and 240 mm wide. The front and back layers will typically be a heat welded together and so the plastic front layer will be required to have the quality of adhesively welding to another material without damage to said plastic. In use, the bag will typically be folded along from one side to the opposite side parallel with the open end face and can if required be further sealed by using known forms of peg or clamp.
It can also be folded multiple times if a steam pressure effect is desired for the specific foodstuff.
In use, it will typically be used to contain raw meats such as chicken and fish and steak, or prepared foodstuffs such as sausages, bacon and burgers. Several items of similar kind can be cooked at the sarre time, while the aluminium back layer preserves the food from damage and the plastic layer which is typically clear or transparent enables the user to view the food as it is cooking. The vital juices are retained within the envelope or bag and can be preserved for gravy or other uses.
While aluminium foil has been often used e.g. to wrap potatoes for cooking in a barbecue the present invention has the additional advantage of allowing the user to view the condition of the cooking foodstuff.
In a preferred embodiment, the bag will be formed of a rear layer of aluminium foil and a front layer of transparent celluloid or polyethylene material bonded together along three sides by a heat welding process such that the clear plastic which is susceptible to damage through heat is not affected. The shiny side of the aluminium will typically be on the outer face of the material. This is in order to reflect excess heat from the barbecue or other heating means.
While the invention has been disclosed in its preferred form, it is to be understood that the specific embodiment thereof, as described and illustrated herein, is not to be considered in a limited sense, as there may be other forms or modifications of the invention which should also be construed to come within the scope of the appended claims.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the essential features of the invention; Figure 2 shows the invention in its folded state Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 shows rear layer 1, front layer 2, heat welded sides 3 and 5, heat welded base 4 and the open mouth 9 of the container.
While heat welding is a preferred form of adhesion, other known means may equally be used to seat the front layer 2 to the rear layer 1. Further, the rear layer 1 may be formed of other materials than aluminium and the front layer 2 may be formed of any heat resistant plastic material, and may be transparent or opaque.
Figure 2 shows the bag comprising rear layer 1, plastic front layer 2, heat welded sides 3 and 5 and heat welded base 4 all as shown in figure 1, as it will be in use for heating food. The rear layer 1 and front layer 2 are shown folded along fold 8 in the most simple way possible, namely a simple single fold from 1 sealed edge 3 the opposite seated edge 5. To improve seating if required, further folds may be made, thus increasing the number of layers at the fold itself. Furthermore corners 6 and 7 can be folded inwards at an acute angte.to help maintain the seal. The materials used will maintain the fold during use. It will be seen that the container thus formed is highly versatile and may be used in a wide variety of ways. 5.
