Abstract
A cat litter tray 1 has at least one aperture 2 in a sidewall through which used litter can be emptied. The aperture may be selectively closed and opened by a cover 3, which may be a sliding cover (see figures 3 & 4), a vertically hinged cover 3, or a horizontally hinged cover (see figures 5 & 6). The aperture is preferably in a corner of the litter tray.
Description
Description
Easy Empty Cat Lifter Tray When a cat litter tray is emptied of used pellets into a bag for disposal, the large surface area created by tipping the tray at sufficient angle for the pellets and excrement to flow out of the tray causes some of the content to spill over onto the floor. To overcome this effect, this invention incorporates at least one aperture, in the attached sketches drawn as a single corner but could be more than one corner, or any portion of the base unit. The aperture will be sealed by a sliding/hinged cover so that during normal use no litter can fall out. When opened, the aperture creates a funnel effect for litter flow and the tray contents can be controlled and directed conveniently into a bag for hygienic disposal.
One advantage of this invention is that the opening mechanism can be incorporated into any conventional or non-conventional tray design, and any accessories such as a top roof or housing can continue to be used.
Examples of the invention are included in the attached drawings: Figure 1 shows the concept of the basic tray with an aperture cut out.
Figure 2 shows an option where the aperture cover rotates about the vertical axis.
Figure 3 shows a detailed view of an option where the aperture cover slides out.
Figure 4 shows a detailed view of the slider option viewed from below.
Figure 5 shows an option where the corner rotates about the horizontal axis to form an opening.
Figure 6 shows a detailed view of the horizontal rotating option viewed from below.
As depicted in figure 1, this invention is based upon using a common litter tray. The corner is open leaving an aperture to assist in the smooth flow of the used litter pellets when emptying. A cover is incorporated into the tray that can be closed when the tray is in normal use. Three options have been identified for closing the aperture during normal use: Vertically hinged aperture cover option (figure 2).
The common tray (item 1) has an aperture (item 2). The cover (item 3) contains a hinge along the outside edge (item 4) to facilitate the opening and closing of the aperture. A locking system holds the cover closed against the aperture and a seal is applied along the aperture edge (item 5) to prevent spillage during normal use. The advantage of this option is that with the cover in the open position, it assists in creating a funnel effect while emptying the tray.
Sliding aperture cover option (figures 3 and 4) The common tray (item 1) has an aperture (item 2). The cover (item 3) is mounted on a base slide that is guided by two rails (item 4), moving the slide along the guide rails opens and closes the aperture. A seal is applied along the aperture edge (item 5) to prevent spillage during normal use. The advantage of this option is that there is no need for a locking system which means simpler construction and assembly.
Horizontally hinged aperture cover option (figures 5 and 6) The common tray (item 1) has an aperture (item 2). The cover (item 3) contains a hinge along the bottom edge (item 4) to facilitate the opening and closing of the aperture. A locking system holds the cover closed against the aperture and a seal is applied along the aperture edge (item 5) to prevent spillage during normal use.
