Abstract

A pick-up rake comprises of a handle 4 with primary and auxiliary rake heads and a sleeve 1 slidable longitudinally along the handle. The sleeve operates a pick-up mechanism 2 via a hinge 3 to enable the secondary rake head to be opened or closed. The weight of the sleeve maintains the pick-up mechanism in an open position when the handle 4 is used for normal raking. The pick-up rake may also have a locking mechanism 5 to maintain the auxiliary rake head in either an open or closed position. A torch attachment 6 may also be attached to the sleeve so that the pick-up rake can be used in low light conditions. The pick-up rake is easier to use than a normal rake and shovel combination and may reduce the possibility of back injury.

Description

Telescopic pick-up Rake This invention relates to the removal of debris after using a rake.
After raking debris into a pile a person will eithr use a shovel to move the debris or possibly even their hands. This involves bending the back and can be very tiresome especially when handling large amounts of debris.
To overcome this the present invention proposes a rake that has a telescopically operated pick-up mechanism so that debris can be removed easily.
The telescopic pick-up rake uses the force of gravity to maintain the pick-up mechanism in an open position during normal raking so that it does not impede on its use as a rake.
* The invention will now be described soley by way of example and with reference to the following drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the telescopic pick-up rake in its normal open raking position and its components.
Figure 2 shows the telescopic pick-up rake with the pick-up mechanism engaged.
In figure 1, the telescopic pick-Up rake in its nqrmal open raking position. The telescopic handle 1, operates the pick-up mechanism 2, via a hinge 3, and the weight of the telescopic handle maintains the mechanism in an open position when the handle 4, is used for raking.
This makes the telescopic pick-up rake easy to use as effort is only need to engage the pick-up mechanism and it will automatically open again after use so that normal raking can resume.
The telescopic pick-up rake could also have a locking mechanism 5, to fix it in either an open or closed position.
The telescopic pick-up rake could also have a torch attachment 6, for use in low light conditions.
In figure 2, the telescopic pick-up rake with its pick-up mechanism engaged.
The telescopic handle 1, is pulled up towards the user and the pick-up mechanism 2, closes like a jaw gripping debris so that it can be moved.
Because the telescopic handle can be easily reached in a standing position the need for bending the back is reduced.
This means the telescopic pick-up rake is much easier to use than a normal rake and shovel combination and will reduce the possibility of back injury.
Once the telescopic handle is released its weight alone opens the pick-up mechanism so that normal raking can resume using the handle 3.
