Abstract

251,578. Binz, A., and Rõth, C. Oct. 30, 1924. Iodo-pyridines and their derivatives are obtained by diazotizing amino-pyridine compounds and reacting thereon with alkali iodide. The products possess bactericidal properties, particularly when electronegative groups such as chlorine and hydroxyl are present. Examples are given of the preparation of a-chloro-#<1>-iodopyridine from achloro-#<1>-aminopyridine and of a-oxy-#<1>-iodopyriline from alpha-oxy-#<1>-aminopyridine. a-Chloro-#<1>-aminopyridine is prepared by reduction of a-ohloro-#<1>-nitropyridine. a-Oxy-#<1>-aminopyridine results from the reduction of alpha-oxy-#<1>-nitropyridine.
