Abstract
A locking mechanism for use in supporting a fishing rod and bite indicators assembly, comprising of male diameter 1 with flat section 4, inserting in to female diameter 2, a finger screw 3 that applies a clamping force on flat 4 to hold the male diameter secure and in a predetermined rotation. The finger screw acts on the male portion on an axis of ninety degrees. The finger screw will preferably be restricted from fully unscrewing to maintain it in the female housing.
Description
Locking Mechanism This invention relates a locking mechanism for assembling sections of a fishing rod rest/bite alarm.
Typically most fishing rod rest constructions are assembled using screw threads to connect the mating sections. This presents three problems, one being that the assembly of the sections can take time, the second problem is that the threads can become cross threaded' due to the nature of their small diameter and damage to the delicate threaded ends during transit can occur. The third problem is that when connecting several rest supports on one single supporting stake getting the correct rotational orientation is very difficult as the thread can lock out anywhere throughout a possible three hundred and sixty degrees rotation.
To overcome this, the present invention works on a male diameter with a flat section inserting into a female diameter with a finger screw at ninety degrees to its diameter.
When the parts are assembled and the finger screw is rotated ninety degrees it has a clamping effect on the inserted male diameter. The factory set positioning of this locking mechanism assures quick and accurate repeatability every time the fishing rod rest is assembled.
Preferably, the locking mechanism has two flats on the inserted diameter to allow for an accurate rotation of the upper section of the mechanism.
Preferably, the finger screw in the lower female diameter is restricted from fully unscrewed and accidently parting company with the lower female diameter.
Introduction of drawings
This invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows all the full assembly of all the working parts prior to insertion from a front facing view.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the parts prior to insertion.
Figure 3 shows a side view of the parts inserted with the finger screw in the clamping position.
In figure 1 the male diameter 1 is shown with the flat 4. The rod rest member 5 is show connected to the female diameter 2 with the finger screw 3 assembled through it at ninety degrees. The finger screw 3 has rotation anti-clockwise to release the male diameter 1 and clockwise to clamp the male diameter 1.
In figure 2 it shows a side view section through with the male diameter 1 ready for insertion into the female diameter 2, ready for insertion.
In figure 3 it shows the male diameter 1 inserted in to female diameter 2 with finger screw 3 rotated clockwise applying pressure to the flat 4 on the male diameter 1, thus holding the mating parts 1 and 2 together in a preset rotation.
Claims (3)
- CLAIMS: 1 A locking device used for supporting a fishing rod rest or bite indicator that locks in to position with a screw at ninety degree to its axis on to a feature ensuring repeatable positioning.
- 2 A locking device according to claim 1 where the locking feature can be at more than one position to the axis of its rotation.
- 3 A locking device to claim 1 and claim 2 where the locking force can be applied from two directions 4 A locking device according any of the preceding claims that applies a clamping pressure using a cam style rotating lock A locking device according to any of the preceding claims that applies a locking force from a sliding collar.
