251,507. Spalding & Bros., Ltd., A. G., (MacDonald, W. W.). Sept. 10, 1925. Balls.-Relates to footballs basket-balls &c. of the type comprising an outer cover and an inner bladder provided with an inflating tube, and consists in that, on the withdrawal of the filling nozzle, the tube is adapted to be closed automatically against the escape of air by its collapsing into a doubled condition between the cover and the bladder. The inflating tube 7 of a bladder 1 is provided at each end with an enlargement 9, 10. The inner enlargement 9 is passed through an opening in an elastic rubber washer 9<a> formed integral with the usual flap 5, and thereby holds the bladder in position. The outer enlargement 10 presses against the inside of the cover 2 during inflation, the cover having been laced prior to this operation. Upon the removal of the inflating nozzle, the tube 7 collapses at a position intermediate the enlargements and thereby prevents the escape of air. A rubber flap valve 6 may also be provided.
