Abstract
A plastic building block may be made from recycled scrap polymer material and may be injection moulded. The block may have a hollow inner core into which an insulation material may be fitted. A series of projections or fingers may project from a lower face of the block and may engage with a corresponding series of grooves or slots to facilitate engagement of a series of block to create a wall. The outer surface of the blocks may be patterned to simulate wallpaper, bricks or stone finish. The bricks may be made of a sound deadening and or fire resistant material.
Description
Description
Background
With declining resources of the worlds natural materials including oil reserves there is more emphasis on recycling. With increasing world population there is ever more increasing demand on building infrastructure.
Statement of Invention
l'his invention relates to a building brick designed for the use in the building industry The brick will be made from recycled plastic. This 100% recycled insulated brick that is made from a ixjection moulding process has a brick or stone textuted pattern moulded on its surface.
The multi-purpose brick can be used for building homes, home extensions, small office blocks, garages, porta cabins, garden sheds, garden walls, music studios & other general building walls.
The brick can be used in conjunction with existing breezc/concrete blocks builds acting as a additional bather of insulation.
Advantages The common building material that are found are masonry brick & concrete block.
The recycled brick/block is a more lighter, cheaper and greener alternative in reducing the carbon footprint yet maintaining the required strength for all of it's attended application use.
To make this product Polyethylene Resin is put through an injection moulding process where resin is melted and shaped within a mould. A fire retardant agent is mixed with the resin to ensure the final product complies with Health & Safety. The brick is moulded with cavities for thermal & noise foam insulation There are also small cavities all the way around on the outer edges of the brick which serve the purpose ofjoining other bricks together and creating an air seal insulation.
The mould is also designed to allow resin to form a textured brick or stone like pattern onto the surface of one or both sides of the brick.
The EPS Foam/Cellouse Foam insulation that is inserted into the main cavities of the brick is extruded from EPS/Polystyrene pellet. Again, a fire retardant agent can be mixed with the resin when forming the pellet to ensure the insulation complies with Health & Safety.
The invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings; Bricks are interconnected to one and other (fig2, 4 & 5). To ensure extra strength and longevity of the air seal a suitable glue can be used on the connectors.
Bricks can be made to different sizes to replicate a stan4ard brick and stone size although the typical size to be used is 250mm x 125mm x 75mm.
The textured brick pattern shown on flg4 & 5 is intended to replicate a masonry brick. Other designs such as stone will also be used for the requirement of stone built structures. There will be an option to have one side moulded with the brick/stone effect and the inner side to have a texture moulded that acts as a wallpaper which can be painted over in any desired colout (Fig6) Therefore the invention acts as a building block stroke thermal insulator, noise depressant stroke a furnished inside wall. It solves three criteria swithin one physical element. The air is permanently trapped (fig2) when bricks are connected on top of one and other (fig5). Fig3 shows two blocks of expanded polystyrene (EPS) placed within the brick.
The formula of foam and air captivity combined improves insulation two fold.
