Abstract

251,346. Gill, T. W. Jan. 30, 1925. Laminated springs.-One contact surface of each leaf is smooth and the coacting surface of the adjacent leaf is provided with a plurality of small indentations 3, Fig. 1, so as to present a roughened or stippled appearance. These indentations are close together and are connected to one another so that lubricant can pass freely over the whole surface of the spring. A smooth surface free from indentations may be left around the edge of each leaf and grooves 17 with flexible oil-retaining packing may be provided as shown in Fig. 8. Anti-friction bearing balls 20 may be provided towards the end of each leaf. The upper leaf of each spring may be provided with a lubricator 7 and the smooth surface of each leaf may be formed with channels 10, Fig. 9. The edges of the leaves may be formed with flanges or lips to prevent the entrance of water or dust, or a spring gaiter may be provided. To prevent leakage, of oil, the securing-bolt holes may be chamfered or recessed for the reception of packing washers 15, Fig. 5.
