Abstract

A chamber 14 for receiving fluid such as in an instantaneous water heater for an electric shower has electrically operated heating elements 30,40 positioned in the chamber and which are shaped, such as in a helical or spiral shape, to define axially extending passage portions 32,42. First and second extension portions of the element 36,46 & 38,48 lead to and from the helical/spiral element portions 32,34 and are connectable to a power supply. To assist in smoothing the flow of fluid from inlet 22 to outlet 24 through the chamber 14 and so that the heating elements do not interfere with the flow of fluid through the chamber, one of the first and second extension portions of the element are located within the passages 32,42, inwardly of the helical/spiral element portions.
