Ribbon resistances, mounted on frames.-The conductor in a gas cell for electrically testing flue gases is in the form of a metal strip 23 which is doubled over several times and placed under tension in a frame which can be placed in position in the gas chamber. The frame consists of insulating plates 33, 34 and rods 35, the ends of the strips being connected to lead-in conductors which pass through insulating sleeves 39 connected to a cover member 38. The strip passes round headed screws 36 by means of which it can be placed under tension. Two strips may be mounted in the same frame, as shown in Fig. 4, for connection in opposite arms of a wheatstone bridge, the frame carrying these strips being inserted in the chamber 18 through which the gas under test is passed. The remaining arms of the bridge are constituted by similar strips in an air chamber.
