Abstract
A mechanism placed within the edge of a door and above a door handle 7 which depresses the cap on a capsule of sanitizer 2 which in turn sprays sanitizer 1 onto the door handle 7. There is a door press mechanism 5 which is pushed within a door jamb when the door is closed which causes the spray button push 4 to move onto the folded spray button push/release 8. This then depresses the spray cap of the sanitizer and sprays the door handle. When the door is fully closed, the spray button push 4 slides to the end of the button push/release mechanism 8 so as to not continuously depress the sanitizer spray cap. In another embodiment, the depression of the sanitizer cap is completed by a motor (14) which is activated by a switch (13) when the door is closed.
Description
Door Handle Sanitiser This invention relates to an automatic door handle sanitiser.
Door handles harbour bacteria through general use. To sanitise a door handle after every use automatically, the present invention proposes a mechanism fitted to the door which depresses a capsule of sanitiser so as to spray sanitiser directly onto the door handle.
The mechanism allows the handle to be sanitised automatically without need for any thought or regular wiping or cleaning.
People using the handle can be reassured that they are not touching a handle which could transfer bacteria onto their hand.
Preferably (but not essentially) the mechanism can be revised to incorporate a switch placed on the inside of the door, activated by the door closing, that (when depressed) controls a motorised button press to activate and spray the sanitiser. The advantage of the initial version is that there is no need to replace/recharge batteries, and no risk of electronic/circuitry failure.
The invention will be further explained by the following drawings: - * Figure 1-Shows the mechanism in 3D perspective. It shows the mechanism attached to the door, sitting just above the door handle.
* Figure 2-shows the mechanism in aerial view with the door closed.
* Figure 3 -Is a front on' view of the mechanism showing the swing arm 4 motion when the door is closed and open.
* Figure 4-Shows an electronic version of the mechanism with a motored version of the spray cap depress.
KEY LEGENDTO PART/ITEM NUMBERS IN DRAWINGS: 1. Sanitiser spray being sprayed onto handle 2. Spray capsule containing sanitiser spray 3. Sanitiser capsule holder 4. Swing arm spray button push 5. Door press mechanism 6. Door 7. Door handle 8. Spray button push/release -This is a folded material that when pushed depresses the spray capsule. As it is slanted on one side the swing arm button push slides to its narrower end (thus releasing pressure on the spray capsule).
9. Spray capsule end stop 10. Spray capsule holder arm brace -this holds the capsule in place 11. Doorjamb 12. Wire sending current from button switch 13 to Motorised Button press 14 13. Button switch -contained in the door jamb, activated when door is closed.
14. Motorised button press -This section contains a basic motor which controls an arm forward to press spray capsule then back to release it.
In Figure 1. the invention is best explained. The figure shows a mechanism (incorporating a door press mechanismS, and a swing arm spray button push 4) which is fitted to the inside edge of a door just above the door handle. The door press mechanism 5 is a spring loaded folded material, so it is open when the door is open, but then pushed closed when the door is closed and the folded material is pushed within the door jamb. When the door is closed, the door press mechanism pushes the spray button push 4 onto the spray button push/release 8 which is a folded material. This then depresses the spray cap of the sanitiser in turn spraying the door handle. When the door is fully closed, the spray button push 4 slides to the end of the button push/release mechanism so as to not continuously depress the spray cap of the sanitiser.
The motorised button press version referred to in Figure 4, would involve a button switch 13 activated when the door is closed which completes an electronic circuit activating a motorised button press 14 to depress the spray cap and release it.
Figure 3 shows that when the door is closed, the door press mechanism 5 pushed the swing arm 4 onto the spray button push/release mechanism 8. In turn this depresses the sanitising spray onto the handle. 4a and 4b show the swing arm when the door is open 4a and once depressed fully 4b.
Claims (2)
- Claims 1. A mechanism placed within the edge of a door and above a door handle which depresses the cap on a capsule of sanitiser which in turn sprays sanitiser onto the door handle.
- 2. A secondary version of the mechanism in claim 1 in which the sanitizer cap depression is completed by a motor activated by a switch activated when the door is closed.
