Abstract

A trailer accessory bracket 10 includes a bolt 6 and a threaded rod 8 as means for attaching the bracket to a compatible trailer. The bracket has a longitudinal shaft 5 for attaching the bracket to the trailer accessory and a threaded rod 8 for passing through an aperture in a retaining plate 9. A trailer leaf spring (2 see fig 2), suitable for the invention to be fitted to, has a spring retainer bush (3 see fig 3) which is sandwiched between the outer trailer chassis (1a see fig 3) and the inner trailer chassis (1b see fig 3). The bracket 10 is typically for mounting a trailer mover so that a drive roller can act on the tyre (11see fig 6) of a road wheel.

Description

Trailer Accessory Bracket DescriDtion This invention enables a trailer mover device to be mounted safely and securely to trailers with parabolic and teat spring suspension types.
Remote control trailer movers are often straight forward to fit onto trailers.
They attach to the trailer chassis in close proximity to the road wheel. Part of the trailer mover is a drive roller. When in use, it engages into the tyre under pressure and is held there. It can now be used to drive the trailer tyre one each side, sometimes two each side on twin axle trailers. An unhitched trailer with the park brake off can then be moved around automatically by remote control.
These trailer movers are designed to clamp directly to existing trailer chassis.
However, not all chassis types are suitable for direct fitment. In these situations, adaption plates are bolted or welded directly to the chassis.
Presently there is no way of attaching a remote control trailer mover to the Ifor Williams range of trailers due to the nature of the leaf or parabolic spring suspension. The unique bracket I have developed enables a safe and secure fitment of a remote control trailer mover or other accessory.
Description of Drawings
The shape of the trailer accessory bracket mating plate can be altered to suit the exact profile of trailer chassis design.
The accessory bracket can be adjustable if required to achieve a desired position of the trailer mover. This can be provided using an oscillated disk or other such method such as threaded shafts.
It will be protected by galvanising, zinc or powder coating. It is preferred to weld the trailer mover direct to the accessory bracket then apply protective coating to complete item. However, the trailer mover can also be clamped or bolted direct to the accessory bracket.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a pair of mounting brackets with mounting bolts, lock nuts and retaining plates.
Figure 2 shows an external side on view of a pair of mounting brackets, one fitted either side of a trailer chassis.
Figure 3 shows a 3D view of one side accessory mounting fitted to trailer chassis.
Figure 4 shows a 3D external view of a pair of mounting brackets fitted to a trailer chassis.
Figure 5 shows an internal view of a pair of mounting brackets fitted to a trailer chassis.
Figure 6 shows external side view of a trailer chassis with trailer accessory bracket mounted in position.
In figure 1, a pair of mounting brackets (10), comprising of mating plate (4), longitudinal shaft (5), and fixed threaded bar (8), would be attached to a trailer chassis (Ia) behind or in front of an axle in close proximity to the road tyre (11).
The two existing bolts on the trailer chassis, that secure the trailer spring (2) and spring retaining bush (3), must be removed to enable replacement bolt (6) and the threaded rod (8) to locate into position.
The aforementioned mating plate (4) is secured to the chassis via the threaded rod (8), the retaining plate (9), a lock nut (7), the bolt (6) and a lock nut (7), ensures that there is no chance the trailer accessory bracket (10), can come loose. The trailer mover can be fitted to the longitudinal shaft (5) by clamping, bolting or welding methods, prior to the trailer accessory bracket being filled to trailer chassis (Ia).
In figure 2, the mating plate (4), longitudinal shaft (5), is shown mounted to the outer trailer chassis (la), close to the trailer spring (2). On this external side view the returning nut (6) can be seen.
In figure 3, the mating plate (4), is shown secured to the outer trailer chassis (la). The trailer spring (2), is shown with the spring retainer bush (3) sandwiched between the outer trailer chassis (Ia) and the inner trailer chassis (ib).
In figure 4, both sides trailer accessory brackets (10), are fitted on to outer trailer chassis (Ia). Longitudinal shaft (5) is to be attached direct to trailer mover, preferably prior to fitment of trailer accessory bracket (10), upon trailer.
In figure 5, both sides inner trailer chassis (lb), lock nuts (7) retain both bolt (6) and retaining plate (9) and threaded rod (8).
In figure 6, one side mounting bracket (10) comprising of mating plate (4) and longitudinal shaft (5), is shown mounted to a trailer chassis (la) and (ib) in close proximity to the road tyre (11). Claim

Claims (4)

  1. A trailer accessory mounting bracket.1. Comprising of a first and a second part.
  2. 2. A trailer accessory mounting bracket according to claim 1 in which a bolt and lock nut is used to retain the first part by means of passing through the trailer chassis.
  3. 3. A trailer accessory mounting bracket according to claim I or claim 2 in which part of the trailer accessory bracket is threaded and passes through the trailer chassis.
  4. 4. A trailer accessory bracket according to claims 1, 2 and 3 in which the first part can be adjustable.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows: Claims 1. A method of mounting a mounting bracket for supporting a remote controlled trailer mover onto a trailer chassis having a parabolic and/or leaf spring suspension system, the method comprising: removing two existing bolts that secure a leaf/parabolic spring and spring retaining bush of the trailer's suspension system to the trailer chassis; providing a mounting bracket comprising a mating plate (4) and a fixed threaded bar (8), and a longitudinal shaft(s) for supporting the trailer mover so that when supported and in use a drive roller of the trailer mover engages a tyre of a trailer; and mounting the mounting bracket to the trailer chassis such that a fixed threaded bar and a replacement bolt pass in the stead of the two removed bolts to secure the trailer's leaf/parabolic spring, spring retaining bush and the mounting bracket to the trailer chassis.2. The mounting bracket of claim 1 for supporting a remote controlled trailer mover onto a trailer having a parabolic and/or leaf spring suspension system; the trailer mounting bracket comprising: a mating plate (4) and a fixed threaded bar (8) arranged for attachment to a chassis (1) of the trailer, the trailer mounting bracket further having a longitudinal shaft (5) for supporting the trailer mover so that when supported and in use a drive roller of the trailer mover engages a tyre of a trailer. os ** . >... * a ** -SS*S a..,. * t.. *., a
