Abstract

250,623. Cohen, E. S. Ali-. Oct. 13, 1924. Yarns, treating with liquids.-Fibrous material is impregnated with a mixture of rubber latex and soapy solution or emulsion, then subjected to a medium which coagulates rubber, washed and dried. It may be pressed before the drying operation. The impregnation may take place at a temperature of 70‹ C. Lampblack or other finely divided carbon filling materials, such as clay or zinc oxide, and, if the product is to be vulcanized, sulphur may be added to the soapy solution. The soapy solution may consist of a dilute ammoniacal solution of a fatty acid or of a mixture of fatty acid with a mineral or vegetable oil or fat or saponin. The process is applicable for the treatment of yarn or fabrics. Textile fabric strengthened with wire, when treated in this way, is suitable for tyres or belts. Treated yarn may be wound and vulcanized to constitute core for golf or other balls.
