Abstract

250,567. Wurstemberger, F. von. April 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Incrustation and corrosion, preventing.- Apparatus, such as a condenser, which is subjected to physical and chemical conditions liable to produce corrosion, is provided with metallic built-in test pieces which are subsequently inspected, and the nature of the conditions within is deduced from their condition. A tubular test piece 2, which may be of the same material as the parts liable to corrosion, is supported between rubber packing 3 and an insulator 4, and makes contact with a rod 5 by means of a spring 6. Test pieces 11 - - 14 may be built into a surface condenser, pieces 11 and 13 being insulated while 12 and 14 are electrically connected to the tubes 17. If the whole condenser is anodic in relation to the water, pieces 12 and 14 will show signs of anodic attack and pieces 11 and 13 will not. If the condenser is acting as an intermediate electrode, for a current flowing from 15 to 16, test piece 12 will be cathodically encrusted with carbonates and test piece 14 will be anodically attacked. Other conditions of the test pieces indicate corresponding corrosion conditions within the condenser.
