Abstract

A watch adaptor comprising two clasp mechanisms 1,2 that attach one to each side of a watch 6, each clasp having a fastening device 4 and a number of receivers 3 for receiving multiple strands of a bracelet type strap. The receivers may be in the form of rings.

Description

Watch I Bracelet Adaptor This invention relates to an adaptor in the form of 2 separate clasps that enables the transformation of a women's watch from a traditional leather or plastic strap watch into a multi-strand bracelet watch.
Traditional leather or plastic watch straps within the jewellery industry can, over time, start to show signs of wear and tear, cracks or frayed stitching along the edges.
As an alternative to replacing I buying a new strap, this invention can be utilised to transform the watch into a multi-strand bracelet watch, giving the watch an entirely new look.
According to the present invention there is provided a watch I bracelet adaptor comprising two separate clasp mechanisms that attach one to each side of a watch, forming the means wherein the watch can be transformed into a multi-strand bracelet watch by utilisation of receiver rings and a fastening device that form an integral part of each clasp.
An integral part of the function of the clasp is a hinge that connects the fastening part of the clasp to the rings part and thereby allows the fastening part to rotate in relation to the rings part in order to compensate for the curvature of the wrist.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-Figure 1 shows in perspective, both of the clasps that comprise the adaptor; Figure 2 The first clasp is shown attached to the watch and the second clasp is shown detached from the watch; Figure 3 shows a side view of the clasp that illustrates how the fastening part of the clasp mechanism opens; Figure 4 shows a side view of the clasp that illustrates the fastening part of the clasp mechanism in the closed position; Figure 5 shows a side view of the clasp with the rings part rotating in relation to the fastening part by utilising a pin hinge that connects one to the other; Figure 6 shows both of the clasps attached to the watch and to three bracelet chain strands that form the new strap; Figure 7 shows the watch, the clasp adaptor and the bracelet chain strands attached; Referring to the drawings the watch I bracelet adaptor comprises two separate clasps 1 and 2, with each clasp incorporating three receiver rings 3 and a fastener 4, as shown in Fig 1.
In order to attach the clasps 1 and 2 to the watch 6, the fastening part 4 is opened manually and inserted into the watch strap holder 8 as provided by the watch 6 as shown in Fig 2. Fig 3 illustrates the Clasp 1 in the open position facilitated by the hinge 7.
The fastening part 4 of the clasps 1 and 2 is closed manually to meet the base 5, thus securing the clasp in the closed position, for example, by virtue of the tension caused by the shape differential of the fastening part 4 in relation to the base 5, or by similar means (not shown). Fig 4 illustrates the clasp 2 in the closed position The receiver rings part 3 of the clasps 1 and 2 are able to rotate in relation to the fastening part 4 and base 5, for example, by virtue of a pin hinge 9 as illustrated in Fig 5 or by similar means (not shown).
Fig 6 illustrates clasps 1 and 2 in the closed position attached securely to the watch strap holders 8 on the watch 6.
A series of three chain strands 10 are added manually to form a new bracelet watch strap by attaching the three metal chain strands 10 to the receiver rings 3 that form part of each clasp 1 and 2 by utilising, for example, six lobster clasps 11 as shown in Fig 7, or by other similar means (not shown).
