Abstract

A planter adapted for supporting a plurality of liners in a row, comprises two end section and two side sections 1 which can be secured together by means of fixings 6. When unassembled, the planter can be flat-packed. The planter may have a plurality of horseshoe shaped, curved or arch-shape units 3 which when placed on the side sections provide support for the liners. There may also be supporting bars 4 placed between the end sections to provide more than one row of liners. The planter is capable of supporting liners securely whilst allowing air to circulate on all sides of the liner and to allow air pruning. The planter is able to hold the liners at a height that is easily reachable without a user having to bend down.

DESCRIPTION
Background
This invention relates to a planter, which allows several advantages over existing planters. There are various forms of planters, formed in various shapes and from various materials. Planters are used as structures to hold a growing medium in order to grow plants, or as structures to hold a fabric which contains the growing medium. Surmountable problems with existing planters are such as the bulkiness and weight of the units. Furthermore, some planters can be lined with an air-porous fabric, the fabric being able to enhance the development of the roots of the plants, such as in patent application GB1108944.8. For this fabric to be fully effective, the planter must be surrounded by air on all sides, whilst still being securely supported. Furthermore, whilst there are planters that can hold a liner, there are no planters that can hold a plurality of liners in a row. Planters also tend to be at a low height, making them harder to access and maintain.
Statement of Invention
To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a method of manufacturing planters that allows the units to be flat-packed, and easily assembled, the planter being capable of holding a plurality of liners in a row.
Advantages The design of the planter allows it to be flat-packed, allowing for cheaper and easier storage and transportation.
The planter can be easily assembled.
The planter will allow a liner to sit safely above the ground, allowing air to circulate all around the planter.
The planter will hold a liner on all sides as opposed to just at the base, allowing for greater security, whilst still allowing air to circulate.
The planter may hold the liners at a height at which they can be easily accessed without having to bend down.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the following drawings -Figure 1 shows a planter assembled.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the planter, before assembly.
Figure 3 shows a liner that can be fitted into the troughs at the top of the planter.
Figure 4 shows a cross section of a liner that can be fitted into the troughs at the top of the planter A planter, as in Fig.l, is constructed of a plurality of units, all of the said units being able to flat-pack into a box. The planter has two side panels(1), and two end panels(2). The planter has a plurality of linked horseshoe shaped units (3), which when placed onto the side panels(lj, provide the support for the liners. Two or more of the horseshoe shaped units can be linked together, and in Fig. 1 the unit is shown with 3 horseshoe shaped units linked together. To further support these units, supporting bars (4) can be placed between the End Panels to hold them. The End panels (2) can be constructed at a size that allows the liners to stand at an easily reachable height. A further support bar (5) can be placed between the base of the end panels (2) to strengthen the structure. The panels can be held together using any number and variety of fixings1 as in Fig land 2 bolts(6) are used. A liner (7) can be fitted into each trough in the planter, and held by the horseshoe shaped supports (3).

Claims (4)

  1. Claims 1. A planter that can hold a plurality of liners in a row, which when unassembled can be flat-packed.
  2. 2. A planter according to Claim 1, that when assembled can hold the liners securely, whilst allowing air to circulate on all sides of the liners.
  3. 3. A planter according to claim br 2, that can hold the liners at a height that is easily reachable without having to bend down.
  4. 4. A planter according to any of the previous claims, which includes a liner made from a fabric that allows the air-pruning of plant roots.
