Abstract
This invention consists of a pair of extension bars which attach to the top of a ladder frame and are shaped to allow a person to walk through them and step directly onto a roof. This avoids the need to step sideways onto a roof which may result in the ladder slipping and this new invention therefore makes this procedure much safer. The extension bars may attach to the ladder head by means of bolts. The extension bars may be manufactured from box-section bars, I-beam or round tubing.

Ladder extension bars
DESCRIPTION
This application relates to an invention designed to make the transition between ladders and roofs a much safer action.
One of the most risky maneuvers when working with ladders is the transfer from ladder to roof and vice-versa. With the normal ladder without the bars there is a tendency to create a sideways force that may result in the ladder slipping sideways and creating a dangerous situation.
The basic design which is the subject of this patent application is shown in Drawing Reference DJT-I and consists of two extension bars which attach by bolts to the top of the ladder frame and are shaped to provide a space between the ban that is sufficient to allow a person to move between these bars and step directly onto the roof and back without any sideways force and hence there is no tendency for the ladder to slip sideways.
This makes the transition between (adder and roof much safer, particularly on building sites where ladders are in frequent use to provide roof access. This arrangement is also beneficial in domestic situations where ladder skills may not be so highly developed.
The general features of this invention are shown in Drawing Ref Dii-t where each of the two bars is shown bolted to the sides of a ladder using a standard nut, bolt and washer arrangement.
Drawing Reference DJT -2 provides additional details of the bars including an option to provide the necessary bar shape using a welded construction in place of the bending process.
Drawing Reference DJT -2 also makes reference to bar section options that could be used to make the extension bars.
These include:- * Extruded hollow section rectangular tubing.
* Extruded I-beam.
* Extruded round tubing For improved stability, this option may benefit from flat plates welded to the tubing at the fixing points. t * . . * ** * *
