Abstract
A shotgun cartridge holder has a pair of disc magnets 1,2 set in recesses 3,4 in a body 5. The body includes a pair of larger diameter recesses 5,6 of a size to receive rims R of a pair of cartridges C. The larger diameter recesses 5, 6 are set apart at a pitch such that the cartridges are held at a separation S suitable for them to be inserted simultaneously into respective barrels of a double barrelled shotgun.
Description
SHOTGUN CARTRIDGE HOLDER
The present invention relates to a shotgun cartridge holder.
Reloading a shotgun can involve fumbling, frustration and fulmination.
The problem is to pickup one or often two cartridges and holding them in the correct orientation insert them quickly into the gun before the quarry has escaped.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved shotgun cartridge holder from which cartridges can be readily loaded.
According to the invention there is provided a shotgun cartridge holder compnsing * abodyand * at least two magnets arranged on the body with substantially coplanar faces to hold the bases of two shotgun cartridges at a spacing appropriate for loading *: into a double barrelled shotgun.
S..... * .
Shotgun barrels are set as close as practical that is to say with a small spacing S...
*. : between the rims of the cartridges in the breach. Accordingly the magnets are set in * the holder at a pitch slightly greater than the diameter of the rims of cartridges of a gauge for which the holder is intended.
The holder may be adapted for securement to the shooter's outer garment, whereby the cartridges can be removed from the holder at a suitable orientation and spacing for loading; or may be able to be bandied, whereby it is able to hold two cartridges at a suitable spacing for insertion in the breach and is removed as the cartridges are inserted.
The former holder can have several magnets for more than one pair of cartridges, and can be provided with means for its securement, such as a Velcro (RTM) strip andior apertures for receiving pin clips.
The latter holder can comprise merely a pair of magnets set on the body. The strip can be provide with a grip.
To help understanding of the invention, a specific embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first cartridge holder of the invention; Figure 2 is a side view of the holder of Figure 1 with a pair of cartridges; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a second cartridge holder of the invention, holding four cartridges; and Figure 4 is a side view of the second cartridge holder.
Referring to first to Figures 1 and 2, the cartridge holder thereshown has a pair * : 15 of disc magnets 1,2 set in recesses 3,4 in a plastics material moulding 5. This is * *. generally flat, with a pair of larger diameter recesses 5,6 of a size to receive the rims R of a pair of cartridges C. The recesses are set apart at a pitch such that the cartridges are held at a separation S suitable for them to be inserted together into the barrels ofa gun.
::::; k use, a pair of cartridges are picked up with the holder. This is scalloped at 7 * centrally of both sides. Thus it is easy to grip, whilst having cartridges placed against it or whilst being manipulated in a cartridge bag. The "brass" end caps of cartridges, are of plated steel and are attracted by the magnets, which are of a strength to retain the cartridges during reloading. Once the cartridges have been inserted in the breach end of a gun's barrels, the holder is readily twisted to clear the rims from the recesses 5,6 and the holder can then be slid off.
Optionally a grip can be moulded to the back of the holder.
Turning on to Figures 3 and 4, the cartridge holder 11 shown there is larger It is of invert 7 shape with four magnets 12 secured to the bottom of a lower flange 13.
Above an angled web 14, an upright -in use -flange 15 has holes for studs 16 for securing the holder to a shooter's outer garment. For this, the flange is also provided with the hook side 17 of a hook and oop fastener.
In use, four cartridges C are held up -cap up -to the magnets and retained s there. As required, they are pulled off the holder and being in a predictable direction are easily inserted in the breach of the gun. They can be pulled off one at a time or in pairs. After reloading the shooter can shoot quickly and reload again or restock the holder as required.
The invention is not intended to be restricted to the details of the above described embodiment. For instance, the larger cartridge holder II may be provided with more than two pairs of magnets 12 for holding more than two pairs of cartridges C. The holder 11 may have just one of either the holes for studs 16 or the hook side 17 of a hook and loop fastener. Alternatively the holder 11 may have other means for is its securement to a shooter's outer garment. Where the holder is provided with a grip, * the grip may be fixed to the holder rather than moulded to the holder and the grip may be mouldedifixed to a side of the holder rather than the back of the holder. * * * . . * *. * * ** * * * * * **
