Abstract
249,710. Hertel, O. H. June 15, 1925. Atmospheric gas burners; burners, arrangements of. - Internal heating apparatus for a retort comprises a series of spaced burners 41 each consisting of an annular casing 42 with nozzles 43 and a non-radial crossmember 52 into which is screwed the supply pipe 53. The casing 42 has a flange 44 for supporting a refractory ring 45, and hooks 46 carrying a clay lining 47. Each burner has its own supply pipe, three being shown in Fig. 6. To prevent overheating of the fuel the pipes 53 for the upper burners are enclosed within a tube 50 to which a cooling fluid is supplied by a pipe 57. The whole burner structure may be mounted so that it can be adjusted longitudinally within the conveyer. In a modification, the feed pipes of the different burners are arranged concentrically as shown in Fig. 10. In this construction the feed pipes 88, 89 are contained within concentric tubes 76, 91 the outer of which is closed at both ends, a pipe connection 78 being provided by which the air can be exhausted from the space around the supply pipes.
