Abstract
249,620. Toogood, H. J., and Dempster & Sons, Ltd., R. Jan. 8, 1925. Hydraulic mains. - In the manufacture of coal gas the seal in the hydraulic main c is maintained while the tar is run off from the tar tower B by flushing the main with ammoniacal liquor from a tank A placed above the tar tower and provided with a valve a<2> operated from a common position and in conjunction with the tar run off valve b. The tank A is connected to the main C by a pipe a having a branch a<1> and is also provided with an overflow E from which liquor constantly drips through pipes e, e<1> into the main and also down a fall pipe e<2> at the bottom of which the flow can be observed through a valve e<3>. A float D and indicators d<2>, d<1> show the height of the liquor in the tank A. The main C is connected with the tower B by pipes F, f as described in Specification 116,068 and is provided with an emergency seal c<1> set slightly higher than the tar level regulating valve b<1> having a U-shaped seal b' connected to a fall pipe b<2>. The main C and tower Bare connected by an equilibrium pipe J.
