Abstract

249,561. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Kelly, W. D.). March 21, 1925, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Automatic circuit-breakers.-An automatic cutout for electric irons &c. comprises a switch member 26, 21 pivoted at 23 and held in the closed position against the action of a spring 27 by a resilient bar 20 which is adapted to be depressed out of engagement by two or more bi-metallic strips 17 clamped to the iron at 19. The strips may be welded together at 19, but are disconnected for the remainder of their length and move downwards in unison when the temperature of the iron rises till the switch arm 26 is released and opens the heating circuit. The switch is re-set by pressing on a knob 33, a spring-pressed plunger 34 having a pin 36 engaging a fixed slot 37, being thereby caused to rotate ,and then descend quickly to press the switch arm 26 into its closed position. An indicating member 42 inscribed with the word " off " is visible through the cover of the iron when the switch is open. Contacts.-The arm 26 is flexible and loosely carries at its right-hand end and insulated from it a resilient bridging member 29<a> having contacts at its ends. The arm 26 is fixed to a member 21 pivoted on knife-edge bearings 23.
