Description

Note Pad and Method of Use Thereof This invention relates to a note or memo pad and to a method of use thereof.
It is known to provide note or memo pads made of non-transparent paper material that have a self stick adhesive provided along an edge thereof to allow a note to be adhered to a document or surface in use. An example of such a note pad is called a Post-it® notepad. A problem with such notes is that when they are adhered to a surface of a document, they obscure the part of the document below where the note is placed. In addition, the post-it notes are typically thrown away after a single use, thereby generating a large amount of waste, which is environmentally Linfriendly and increases the costs associated with waste disposal.
In an attempt to overcome the abovemetitioned problems, it is known to provide note or memo pads made of transparent plastic material, which have a self stick adhesive provided on each note of the pad, to allow a note to be adhered to a document such that the content of the document can be viewed through the same in use. The plastic material is formed such that a user can also write on the notes. Examples of such transparent note pads are disclosed in L1S2002071 926 and DE20309060. However, a problem with such notes is that they are non-biodegradable and therefore are harmful to the environment and the notes are still single use items.
It is therefore an aim of the present invention to provide an improved note or memo pad.
It is a further aim of the present invention to provide a method of using a note or memo pad.
It is a yet further aim of the present invention to provide note pad apparatus and a method of use thereof.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a note or memo pad, said note or memo pad including two or more substantially transparent sheets of material, at least one adhesive layer provided on at least part of each of said material sheets to allow removal of the material sheet from the pad and/or allow removable adherence of the material sheet to a surface in use, characterised in that the two or more material sheets are formed from a material such that an erasable ink can be applied thereto in use.
The present invention therefore has the advantage that each material sheet of the note or memo pad can be written or drawn on a number of times and erased after each occasion, thereby allowing the material sheets to be reused a plurality of times.
This greatly reduces the amount of waste generated from using the note or memo pads, thereby being more environmentally friendly compared to prior art pads. The note or memo pad of the present mv ention also has the advantage of being transparent to allow a document over which the sheet material is placed in use to be viewed.
Preferably the two or more material sheets are formed from substantially biodegradable and/or recyclable material. As such, when the material sheets are eventually disposed of, the material sheets will substantialLy biodegrade or be recyclable, thereby reducing any long term harmful impact on the environment.
Preferably the material sheet is formed from any or any combination of a plastic material or materials. In one embodiment the plastic material is or includes cellulose acetate (CA).
Tn one embodiment the plastic material is or includes Polyethylene Terephthalatc (PNT).
Both PET and CA are substantially biodegradable and recyclable materials that also both fulfil the requirement of allowing an erasable ink to be applied to the same in use.
Preferably the adhesive layer is a re-useable adhesive. The adhesive layer is such that a material sheet can be removed from the note or memo pad and/or removed from a surface on which it is located without leaving any significant residue and which allows the material sheet to be adhered at least one further time to a sLirface in use.
Preferably the adhesive layer is a low-tack adhesive that enables bonding, detachment and further re-bonding of the material sheet to a surface. It is the low adhesive or low tack nature of the adhesive that typically allows for the separation and re-adherence of the material sheet to a surface in use.
Preferably the adhesive is one which cures at room temperature (i.e. I 8-25°C) and pressure.
Preferably the adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
The adhesive layer can be provided at any suitable Location on the material sheet. In one embodiment the adhesive layer is provided adjacent a peripheral edge of the material sheet.
Preferably oniy a single peripheral edge of the material sheet is provided with the adhesive layer.
Preferably the peripheral edge is a lateral peripheral edge of the material sheet.
Further preferably the adhesive layer is provided as a relatively narrow band adjacent the peripheral edge of the material sheet.
The adhesive layers of each material sheet are typically provided substantially at the same position in the memo or note pad.
Preferably each material sheet of the memo or note pad is provided in overlapping relationship and preferably each material sheet is substantially entirely aligned in overlapping relationship to form a neat stack of material sheets.
Preferably the sheet material and/or the note or memo pad can be any suitable size, shape and/or design.
Preferably the sheet material and/or note or memo pad can be provided in any or any combination of colours, such as pink, green, blue, yellow, clear and/or the like.
In one embodiment one or more semi-transparent or opaque portions can be provided on the sheet material if required. This could form part of a design, image logo and/or the like.
Each material sheet is preferably substantially flat and planar in form.
Preferably each material sheet acts as a writing or drawing platform or surface to allow a user to make one or more marks thereon using erasable ink.
The erasable ink is formed such that it can be wiped off the material sheet during purposive removal but is not removed simply by contact within another surface, such as another page of a document located on top of the same and/of the like.
The erasable ink is typically quick drying ink, such that it is not easily smudged once applied to the material sheet.
The material sheet typically provides a substantially non-porous membrane creating an impenetrable barrier for the application of an erasable ink thereto.
In one embodiment the erasable ink includes an aqueous solution, such as water, and a resin. Preferably the erasable ink further comprises titanium dioxide.
Preferably the erasable ink includes a (lie or colour forming component, thereby allowing the erasable ink to be any suitable colour.
Preferably there is an attractive force or forces between the material sheet and the erasable ink when the material sheet and erasable ink are brought into contact with each other, thereby allowing the ink to be transferred onto an outer surface of the material sheet.
In one embodiment the erasable ink is applied using application means, such as a brush, pen, nib, applicator and/or the like.
Preferably the application means includes dispensing means, such as for example a nib provided at one end of the same. The dispensing means or nib could include a substantially porous material that allows ink to pass from or through the same in use for application to an outer surface of the material sheet. For example, the dispensing means could include a plurality of substantially porous and pressed fibres.
Tn one embodiment eraser means are provided on or associated with the application means and/or are provided as part of note of memo pad apparatus to allow the erasable ink, once applied to an outer surface of the material sheet, to be removed therefrom.
The eraser means can be or can include any or any combination of a substantially absorbent and/or abrasive material.
Preferably the dispensing means of the application means is provided with a lid, cap or closure for locating over the end of the same to prevent the ink from drying out.
In one embodiment the eraser means can be associated with or provided on the lid, cap or closure. In a further embodiment the eraser means can be associated with or provided on an end of the application means, and preferably an end of the application means sLibstantially opposite to the dispensing means end.
Preferably the material is formed of sufficient thickness to have a degree of flexibility to allow the same to be easily removed from and/or to a pad of material sheets, a document, surface and/or the like but have sufficiently rigidity and/or strength to prevent tearing of the same in use.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of using a note or memo pad.
Preferably the sheet material forming the note or memo pad is cut from a larger sheet of material during a manufacturing process.
Preferably an adhesive layer is applied to a part of each sheet material forming the note or memo pad. The adhesive layer on each sheet material is provided in substantially the same position on each material sheet and aligned on top of each other to form a stack.
According to a further aspect of the present invention there is provided note or memo pad apparatus, said apparatus including a note or memo pad and application means containing or capable of ink that is erasable from the sheet material from which the note or memo pad is formed.
Preferably eraser means are provided on or associated with the application means or forms part of the apparatus.
Thus, it can be seen that the present invention has the following advantages: a) provides a substantially transparent and re-useable sticky note; b) allows annotations to be made indirectly to a document via the material sheet and also allows for subsequent changes to be made to the annotated material sheet without the requirement of a new material sheet; c) is capable of being used multiple times; d) reduces waste; e) is biodegradable and/or recyclable and therefore is more environmentally friendly compared to prior art memo pads.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying figures, wherein: Figures 1 and 2 show a plan view and side view of a material sheet forming part of a memo or note pad respectively in one
example;
Figures 3 and 4 show a side view and a plan view of a material sheet with an adhesive layer associated with the same respectively; and Figures 5 and 6 show perspective views of a pen for use with the memo or note pad according to an embodiment of the present invention with the lid on and off respectively.
Referring firstly to figures 1-4, there is illustrated a substantially transparent material sheet 2 forming part of a note or memo pad according to an embodiment of the present invention. The note or memo pad, typically comprises a plurality of transparent material sheets 2 aligned on top of each other in wholly overlapping relationship.
The material sheet 2 in this example is substantially square in shape but it will be appreciated that it can be any suitable size, shape anti/or design. The material sheets 2 forming the memo or note pad can be the same shape, size and/or design or a different shape, size and/or design to other material sheets in the pad.
An adhesive layer or band 4 is applied adjacent a peripheral lateral edge 6 of the sheet 2. The adhesive is a low tack pressure sensitive adhesive that allows the material sheets to be adhered together to form a note or memo pad, for a material sheet 2 to be removed from the pact and applied to a further surface in use, and for the material sheet 2 to be re-applied to a surface on at least one further occasion if required. As such, the material sheet is re-useable.
The material sheet is formed from PET and/or CA that allows an erasable ink to be applied thereto and removed therefrom in use and which is also substantially biodegradable and recyclable.
Referring to Figures 5 to 8, there is illustrated an applicator device in the form of a pen 8 for applying an erasable ink to an outer surface 10 of the material sheet 2.
The pen 8 includes an elongate main body portion 12 with an ink reservoir defined or contained therein for the containment of an erasable ink in use. The main body portion 12 has a first end 14 which can be fixed in position or removable for replenishment of the ink reservoir as required, and a second end 16 which is provided with dispensing means in the form of a nib 18 for dispensing the ink from the reservoir onto a surface of the material sheet.
The nib 18 is typically formed from compressed porous fibres that allow ink to be drawn from the ink reservoir and transferred to the material sheet when the nib 18 makes contact with an outer surface of the material sheet.
A lid 20 is detachably attached to end 16 of the pen 8, as shown by arrow 21. The dimensions of the lid and pen are such that the lid engages the end 16 of pen 8 by friction fit.
Erasing means in the form of an absorbent and mildly abrasive material 22 is provided at the first end 14 of the main body portion 12. Alternatively, or in addition, erasing means in the form of an absorbent and mildly abrasive material 22a can be provided at the free end 24 of lid 20. The material 22 and/or 22a can be used to remove existing erasable ink from the material sheet 2 so that further erasable ink can be reapplied to material sheet 2.
The pen 8, erasing material 22 and/or 22a and sheet material 2 can form a set or memo pad apparatus. The material sheets will typically be supplied in shrink wrap matcrial and can bc any size, such as for example 3 inches square. A memo or note pad can include any number of material sheets. In one example, 12 material sheets form a memo pad.
