Abstract

249,451. White, A. E., (Kleinert Rubber Co., I. B.). Dec. 23, 1925. Convertible into handbags.-A parasol adapted to be converted into a bag to carry a bathing costume &c. comprises a stick 3 having attached at one end thereof, Fig. 2, a number of flexible ribs 2 which extend diametrically from side to side of a cover 1. This cover is preferably of rubberized or waterproof fabric, and is secured to the central parts of the ribs 2, and to the end of the stick 3 by a screwed stud. The cover is provided on the inside near its edge with pockets 10, Fig. 7, for the ends of the ribs 2, and also with eyeletted flaps 11 through which a draw string 13, Fig. 2, is threaded to close the umbrella against the elasticity of the ribs. A cross-piece 15 is provided on the stick to serve as a cleat for the draw string and maintain the umbrella closed.
