Abstract

A modular pole, such as a tent pole or flag pole, comprises a plurality of sections with means of locking the sections to each other to avoid unwanted separation of the sections when using the pole. Each section has a sleeve on one end which receives a mating piece at the other end of a similar pole. A slot in a sleeve on one section may be juxta-posed with a cross pin on the mating section and by pushing and twisting the two sections a locking function is obtained between the two sections. This bayonet connection may have a recess instead of a slot or may be reversed so that the pin is on the inside of the sleeve and the slot on the outside of the mating piece. Alternatively a magnet may be provided in the sleeve and a metal cap on the mating piece or vice-versa. An elastic string may be provided through each of the sections, all of the sections may be the same length, the pole may be made from fibreglass or carbon fibre and the sleeve may be made from Bakelite (RTM).
