Abstract

249,021. Baker, T., Thorne-. Dec. 11, 1924. Copying-telegraphs.- Light reflected from successive elemental areas of the picture or like at the transmitting station is incident on a light-sensitive cell, the varying current is transmitted to the receiving station where it produces corresponding variations in the intensity of a source of light arranged to illuminate successive elemental areas of a photographic reproducing surface, and means are provided for effecting the exploring movements at the two stations in synchronism. In the transmitter, Fig. 1, the picture wrapped around a rotary cylinder a reflects light emitted from a source f and concentrated by a lens c to a prism d which reflects it on to the light-sensitive cell e. In the receiver, Fig. 2, the current passes through lamps f, f<1> in parallel mounted in a casing g directing a spot of light on to the photographic surface wrapped around a rotary cylinder a. Normally the lamp f is in use, the lamp f<1> being masked by a pivoted shutter h which is moved by gravity to unmask the lamp f<1> upon deenergization of a magnet j in the event of failure of the lamp f. To obtain more brilliant illumination the lamps may be subjected to a current which would over-run them but for the variations due to the transmission. The cell e at the transmitting station may be arranged to act as a variable grid leak in connection with a thermionic valve for wireless transmission, the lamps at the receiving station being controlled by connection with the plate circuit of a receiving valve. The exploring movements are preferably effected as described in Specification 248,837 and synchronism may be maintained as described in Specification 249,020. According to the Provisional Specification the picture at the transmitting station may be explored simultaneously by two or more light-sensitive cells to accelerate the transmission.
