Abstract

The multifunction paint brush hanger/support structure comprises of a main body 26 that is bent into an 'S' shape and other elements coming at angles from this. The brush hanger/support may hold the paint brush from the metal arms 37, 38. Preferably this is done by the brush 24 being held by the teeth 13 with the main shaft of the brush resting in the concave areas (14, fig.3). The multifunction paint brush hanger/support is designed to have eight different uses: (i) to support a brush on a metal paint can (fig.1); (ii) to support a brush on a plastic paint can (fig.2); (iii) to open metal paint cans (fig.6); (iv) to open plastic paint cans (fig.8); (v) to support a paint can from a ladder (fig.9); (vi) a paint scraper (fig.12); (vii) remove excess paint from a paint roller (fig.10); and (viii) a carrying device for both a paint can and brush (fig.11).

Description

Description
The invention of this Multifunction paint brush hanger/support is to be used to hold a wet paint brush on the side of a metal/plastic paint can and for the excess paint to fall back into the main paint reservoir of the can. The design of the arms allows for a wide variety of different brush handle sizes to be held by the device.
It also has many other functions to assist a painter consisting of: (i) Open metal paint cans without excess damage to the lid so it can be replaced easily. (ii) Open plastic paint cans. (iii) Hook to hold a paint can from a ladder. (iv) Paint scraper. (v) Removal of excess paint from a paint roller by scraping the remaining paint from the roller back into the can. (vi) Carrying in one hand an open can of paint and a wet paint brush which is positioned over the main reservoir of paint. Leaving the other free to assist with climbing or for other tasks.

A) Open metal paint cans-Figure 6: The end of the arms (10, 11) fit in between the body of the can (30) and the lid (31). Then by pivoting the body (12) upwards leaving the end of the arms (10, 11) in position the lid is levered open. Figure 7: The position of both arms (10, 11) within the rim have a large surface area and when used leave little or no damage to the lid (31) when levered open.
B) Open plastic paint cans-Figure 8: The appendage (8) fits in between the body (29) and the lid (28) and by using a downward movement of the body (12) the lid is pried open.
C) Multifunction paint brush hanger/support-Once the lid has been removed using (A) or (B) method as above. The device is placed on the metal can as figure 1 or on a plastic can as figure 2. When placed over a metal can the raised part of the device (3) clips under the inner rim (18) and is fixed. When placing on to a plastic can the raised part of the device (4) clips under the inner rim (18).
Figure 3: When a thinnest part of a paint brush shaft is placed into the arms (36,3 8) it is allowed in between the teeth (13) until it can not travel any further along the range of teeth (25). When it is stopped by a pair of teeth (13) it drops back into the lower concave area (14) and when released the shaft of the brush moves downwards filling the concave area (14) . This part of the brush shaft is larger and locks into the concave area (14) and is held by the teeth (13). The arms (36, 37) have eight different positions to hold various brush sizes and types. To remove the paint brush it is lifted, in doing so the smallest dimension of the brushes shaft is raised into the position it was when placed into the device. In doing so, freeing it from the set of holding teeth (13) and allowing it to be removed from the device.
D) Ladder Hook-Figure 9: The curved part of the device (6) clips over the rung (34) of a ladder (35), either a triangular rung or square rung can be accommodated. The paint can handle (33) is held by the curved part of the device (32). To prevent the can coming off in use or when being carried there are two raised wings (9) on each arm (36,37).
E) Paint scrapper-Figure 12 show the two surfaces (40,4 1) which are set perpendicular to each other with a fine edge. This edge can be used as a scraper to remove excess dried paint at the junction of the glass and glazing bars of a window. Placed flat on the surface of the glass and moved sideways.
F) Removal of excess paint from a paint roller after use-Figure 10: The upper part of the holder (7) can be used to scrape along a paint roller (36) 50 the excess paint is removed (21) from the paint retaining material on the head of the roller and back into the main paint can.
0) Carrying of a paint can and brush together -Figure 11: The device can be used to hold an open can and a wet paint brush at the same time leaving the painter a free hand. When holding part (6 and 7) of the device the can and brush can pivot in a single hand (39) in this way it can be moved from side to side without paint spillage, assisting the painter when climbing ladders or other tasks.
