Abstract

A garment comprises sleeves that are joined directly to an under bust band by means of stitching. The under bust band may be elasticated, and elastic may run along the inside of the under bust band and over the shoulder of a wearer from front to back following the top edge of the entire garment. The sleeves may be of any length or style. In use, the under bust band may be completely hidden underneath a dress, vest or top, and the sleeves may appear to be floating or unconnected.

Description

INVENTION DESCRIPTION
NAME: IJNDERBUST BAND WITH FLOATiNG SLEEVES The inspiration for this invention was the need for women to be able to cover their arms without adding an extra layer such as a shrug, cardigan, bolero etc This invention is for Women who love fashion and want to cover their arms and there are many reasons why women like to do this -religion, scars, fat arms, bingo wings, skinny arms and tattoos to name but a few.
This invention goes beyond just wearing an undergarment with sleeves (or an outer garment such as a tight fitting top) under a person's sleeveless dress, vest or top. This invention allows the following for the wearer: * For a person to wear a dress, vest or top and cover their arms without adding an extra layer * To do this with any neck or backline (the under bust band is not visible) * To even wear a strapless dress as the invention does not rely on a strap to stay in position, all that can be seen are the sleeves.
Key Features * An under bust band that goes all the way around the body * The under bust band becomes wider towards the sides of the body (approximately double the width of the band that can be seen at the front or the back) in order to support the sleeves (dimensions vary according to size) * The sleeves are stitched onto the under bust band * The under bust band is elasticated * Elastic also runs along the inside of the under bust band and over the shoulder from front to back but this is hidden inside the sleeve fabric (this is acting as a hidden over the shoulder strap to hold the garment in place and stop the sleeves from sliding off the shoulder) * As the elastic that goes over the shoulder is one single piece that follows the top edge of the entire garment, the invention. fits securely, doesn't move around and ensures comfort (feels like a one piece garment) * The garment does not rely on straps and the fabric that is attached to the under bust band acts as both a strap and a sleeve. This allows the garment to be worn with strapless dresses * The sleeves can be any length or style (wide, balloon, flare). The inventive step relates specifically to the combination of under bust band and adjoining sleeve that also operates as a strap. The invention therefore ensures that the only visible aspect is the sleeves which appear to be isolated (not connected to anything) * I successfully registered a design for an undergarment with sleeves but this invention goes one step further as it negates the requirement for a separate over the shoulder section/strap thus allowing the sleeves to float' and appear unconnected.
* As the invention is a garment, it is not limited to any specific material. Any material suitable for manufacturing garments -man made or natural, is appropriate.
* The invention will initially be manufactured in 4 sizes (UK 6-10, UK 12 -16, UK 18 -22 and UK 24-28) but larger sizes will follow in due course. It is the elastic that allows a single size of garment to cover three separate UK sizes Attached you will find 5 drawings.

Claims (11)

  1. CLAIMSNAME: UNDERBUST BAND WITH FLOATING SLEEVF * The garment comprises of sleeves of any shape or length, that are joined directly to the under bust band with stitching * The sleeves appear to float because the under bust band is hidden beneath the clothing -only the sleeves are visible * The sleeves appearing to be floating' or unconnected' is possible because of the way that the sleeve material encompasses elastic over the shoulder.* The garment fits securely and doesn't move around because the elastic contained within the sleeve material (that goes over the shoulders) actually follows the entire top edge of the garment.* This gives a one piece feel to the garment.* The garment allows the wear to wear any back or neckline, includin a strapless dress, because the under bust band that is carrying the sleeves, is completely hidden. No matter what outer clothing is being worn * The under bust band sits underneath the bust and doesn't interfere with the wearing of the bra I confirm that the above claims are why my invention is entirely new and unique Amendments to the claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1.
