Abstract
The device consists of a portable bulb-holder 1. A headlamp bulb 2 is inserted into the socket end 3 and the bulb flange tab 4, which acts to correctly locate the bulb with respect to the bulb-holder. The bulb holder is then fitted into the headlamp by insertion into a mounting situated at the rear of the headlamp.
Description
P
VEHICLE HEADLAMP BULB FITTING DEVICE
This invention relates to a vehicle headlamp bulb fitting device.
Compact modern vehicles with their computer management equipment have much less space available at the front of their engine compartments. The resulting manual inaccessability and the tricky nature of the fitting have made changing a headlamp bulb much more difficult for the average person.
According to the present invention there is provided a vehicle headlamp bulb fitting device comprising a bulb-holder, a mounting at the rear of the headlamp and means for releasably retaining the bulb-holder in the mounting. The bulb-holder, when released from the mounting,is portable which facilitates the insertion of the bulb into the bulb-holder. An operation that can be carried out away from the vehicle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1. shows a cross-sectional view of a bulb-holder and a vehicle headlamp bulb.
I & Ii show the precise position of the bulb flange locating tab in relation to the bulb-holder.
Figure 2. shows a cross-sectional view of the bulb-holder located in the mounting with the bulb in position in the headlamp. The broken lines denote the electrical wiring channels through the bulb-holder.
Referring to the drawing the device consists of a portable bulb_holder 1, where at one end the headlamp bulb 2 is fitted by insertion into the socket 3.
The locating tab on the bulb flange 4 fits precisely onto the base of the bulb-holder, which then together form a key to be accommodated by a corresponding notch to the outer-side of the bulb aperture in the headlamp housing. By this means fitting is one-way only.
The bulb-holder 1 is positioned bulb first into the mounting 6 at the rear of the headlamp 5 and releasably held in place by, for example, a sprung locking mechanism or similar retaining means (not shown).
As this requires finger tip feel only, the procedure may be easily carried out blind'.
The vehicle electrical supply socket (not shown) is finally pushed onto the connecting pins 7 on the bulb-holder.
To change a bulb, the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS1. A vehicle headlamp bulb fitting device comprising a portable bulb-holder, a mounting at the rear of the headlamp and means for releasably retaining the bulb-holder in the mounting. The headlamp bulb is inserted into the socket end of the bulb-holder and precisely located therein by correctly positioning the bulb flange tab.The bulb-holder, complete with bulb, is releasably locked into the mounting at the rear of the headlamp. 4.Amendments to the claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1. A vehicle headlamp bulb fitting device comprising a bulb-holder, a mounting at the rear of the headlamp and means for releasably retaining the bulb-holder by a tab on the flange of the bulb which corresponds to a recess in the bulb-holder.
- 2. A key ensures that the bulb-holder is seated correctly in the mounting. S. * p. * ** 4')* I, PS*S 5* SS * * SS * *5V * IIS *SSS
