Abstract

A support device suitable for use with long handled garden tools, such as loppers, comprises a main body 1 having a projecting hollow support cup 2 to receive a lopper handle. The main body 1 may have slots 4, 5, 6 cut out for receiving strap material to allow the device to be strapped to a users upper leg. Two horizontally fitted thigh straps and a vertically fitted shoulder strap may be used. The support cup 2 may be conical in shape. With the handle received in the cup portion, the device allows comfortable, safe and convenient single handed operation of long handled, garden loppers.

The Lopper Mate
Description.
A supporting device for hand h&d, cong handled garden loppers as used in the pruning of smafl to medium sized tree branches that allows for convenient, safe single handed operation.
The device is comprised of a main body plate with a projecting support cup (see figure 1 in the separate, drawings document: loppermate-dd.pdf). One handle of the oppers is inserted into the support cup. The other handle of the loppers is manipulated in the vertical plane by the user's hand as normal.
The body plate of the lopper mate fits to the users right (or left) thigh using two thigh straps for horizontal support and either a belt loop or optional shoulder strap, if the user generally doesn't wear a belt, for vertical support.
The lopper mate device enables single handed operation of the garden loppers that: * Improves speed and efficiency. When lopping branches into smaller pieces for disposal or possible firewood kindling. The users free hand is better able to hold and control the branch being lopped enabling faster cutting.
* Improves tidiness during use and lessens the subsequent clearing up afterwards.
With a free hand, the user is better able to control where the lopped pieces fall eg into a wheelbarrow, bucket, garden bag.
* Improves comfort during use. There is substantially less need to bend down to retrieve the lopped pieces or pick up branches that invariably fall to the ground from whatever temporary support is being used eg wheelbarrow or tree log/stump.
* Increases safety. The ends of the handles (a common trap point) are kept away from the user's body mid section. The cutting blades are also kept away from the body and users fingers.
* Reduces fatigue. The amount of user energy required is reduced by supporting the weight of the loppers with the lopper mate.

Claims (3)

  1. The Lopper Mate Claims.1. A support device for tong handted garden toppers comprised of a singte, rectangutar moutded main body with projecting, hottow, conical support cup to take a garden lopper handle.

The device, recited in ctaim 1, main body has four vertical cut out slots and one horizontal cut out slot for the fitting of strap material to allow the device to be strapped to the users upper-leg by means of two horizontally fitted, length adjustable thigh straps and a vertically fitted, length adjustable strap that clips to either a belt toop or shoutder harness/strap.

The support cup for the device, recited in claim 1, is conical in shape and comprises a hollow section for the insertion of a garden topper handle.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows: 1. A support device for tong handled garden toppers comprised of a single, rectangular moulded main body with projecting, hollow support cup to receive a garden lopper handle.2. The device as described in claim 1, main body having, when orientated for use, four veftcal cut out slots and one horizontal cut out slot for the fitting of strap material to allow the device to be strapped to the users upper-leg by means of two horizontally fitted, length adjustable thigh straps and a vertically fitted, length adjustable strap that clips to either a belt loop or shoulder harness/strap.3.
