Abstract

A locking system for a slide fastener, comprising a first slide fastener tab 1 with a central opening, and a second slide fastener tab 2. The second tab is dimensioned so that it can pass through the opening of the first slide fastener when held at one angle, but interlocks with the first tab at another angle. The first and second tabs have hook shaped projections 3 that can interlock with each other. A section 5 on each tab may be used in combination with a padlock for locking the tabs together.

Many people carry things of value with them every day, from personal possessions, important documents and hundreds of pounds worth of electronic goods and on a daily basis, people have these items stolen directly from their bags by thieves.

This will help deter thieves, for example, on a busy train as they would need to spend a long amount of time trying to unhook both zips from each other.

Zipper one (1) will interlock with zipper two (2) creating a secure zip that cannot be opened in an easy manner. (See Figure 2) One zip tab has a hollow slit in its middle which allows the other, thinner, zip tab to thread through. It does this by the user turning the zip tabs and threading them together, rather like threading a togle button. Both zip tabs have small hooks on them (4) which stop the zips coming apart by using opposing forces to lock together.

This means that if the bag the zip tabs are on are joggled about or take any other force, the tabs have a slight degree of movement, but when pulled in opposite directions, the hooks on each tab lock together resulting in the zip staying closed shut.

For the user to then open the bag, they separate the zip tabs by twisting them apart (roughly 60 degrees in opposing directions).

1. Claims Please refer to figure 1 unless stated with this claim form I A two pad zipper system where one zipper hooks through the middle of the other (See Figure 2).
2. 2 A zipper system as in claim 1, that once interlocked, will stop a bag from unzipping.
3. 3 A zipper system as in claim 2, that deters thieves from unzipping someone's bag due to the zipper system requiring two hands to carefully twist them apart and unhooking them from each other to free the zippers.
4. 4 A zipper system that has a feature (5) to allow use of a padlock for extra security.
