Plates &c., securing tubes to.-To facilitate renewal of condenser tubes renewable short tubes 16 with flared ends 17 are secured to a tubeplate 10 and the free end of the long tube 22 slides in packing 20 forced against the inturned end 19. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the short tube 29 is a ferrule screwed or expanded into the tube plate 10, while Fig. 5 shows another form of short tube 33 having in addition to a flared end, a filling piece 35 to present a smooth curved surface to the inflowing liquid.
