Abstract

A dynamo electric machine comprises a permanent magnet rotor, the rotor having a cover 7 mounting a series of U-shaped yokes 6, each yoke carrying a respective outer and inner permanent magnets 4,5, and a stator comprising H-shaped wound cores 3 supported on a mounting plate 13 by rivets 10. The rotor cover 7 may be of non-ferrous material (e.g. plastics, aluminium). The magnetic flux lines, flow from the energized coil 12, through the outer permanent magnet 4, into the U shaped iron permanent magnet backing holder 6. through the inner permanent magnet 5 into the original energized coil. The H-shaped cores and the U-shaped magnet assemblies are individually replaceable for easy maintenance.

Complete Specification for Invention titled.
"Improved electric motor no.5" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:
Prior Art.
Conventional electric motors and generators come in all shapes and sizes, but all have a rotor, stator and windings, and it is generally accepted that one of the impediments to good efficiency and performance is the size and number of the air gaps between the ends of the energized coils and the permanent magnets in the rotor, which effect the magnetic flux line circuit strength, magnetic fluxes travel best in magnetic material or ferrous material, but do not travel well in air alone, and do not travel in or are unaffected by nonferrous materials, but like electricity, will always seek out the line of least resistance, to complete the magnetic circuit, they normally have the permanent magnets in the rotor, with an iron backing ring, and the windings in, or mounted on the stator, it can be vica versa, the effect is to have two air gaps in a magnetic flux circuit for each energized coil and power stroke.
The object of this invention is to provide an improvement on my earlier invention described in US Patent No. US6812615 Bi dated Nov 2nd 2004. titled **.*; Electric Motor, that invention describes a new type of electric motor which r': effectively uses both sides of the energized coil, this is shown in Fig.1. which also at no.1 shows the outer magnet backing ring, and no.2 the inner magnet * ** * S * **** S. S S * S S ** Page. 2 backing ring, these iron rings allow the magnetic flux lines to circulate, and with out them the performance of the electric motor is significantly reduced, an alternative to the normal accepted configuration and magnetic flux line path, in fig.1 the accepted normal iron cuter magnetic ring 1. and an inner iron magnetic ring as described in my earlier US Patent No.US6812615 the H shape energized coil 3. and outer curved permanent magnet 4. and inner curved permanent magnet 5, the accepted magnetic flux lines would flow from the energized coil 3.
through the outer permanent magnet 4. through the outer magnetic backing ring 1. along the outer magnetic backing ring 1. through the outer permanent magnet 4. to the next energized coil 3. then through the inner permanent magnet 5. along the inner permanent magnet backing ring 2. through the inner permanent magnet 5. then into the original energized coil 3. to complete the circuit, this invention shows an alternative route for the magnetic flux lines that effectively reduces the air gap to one air gap per power stroke, while at the same time reduces the weight, and improves the ease of maintenance of the electric motor or generator.
In the Drawings.

Description of this invention.
This invention in its simplest form is an electric motor or generator that has through magnetized permanent magnets 5. fixed on both ends of metal U brackets 6. with opposite magnetic poles adjacent to each other, with consecutive, alternating magnetic poles which are radiating, equal distance from the center, and equal distance apart, these metal U brackets 6. are fixed to a rotating cover 7., fitted with bearings 16. and mounted on a center shaft 11., while H shaped energized coils 3. that are equal distance from the center, and equal distance apart, are fixed to a stationary energized coil mounting plate 13.
fitted on a center shaft Ii., so the energized coils 3. pass between the permanent magnets 4.5. on the U bracket 6., producing a power stroke, that is they react with the like magnetic poles, to repel, or unlike magnetic poles to attract, on both ends of the energized coil 3., this improved configuration effectively provides two power strokes for two air gaps in the magnetic flux lines instead of the normal one power stroke for two air gaps, this alternative path to the magnetic flux lines, in Fig.2. the outer magnet backing ring I and inner magnet backing ring 2. have been removed, and in there place is a U shaped *°. iron permanent magnet backing holder 6. illustrated in Fig.3. the outer surfaces r' of the U shape have the required radius's to suit the outer permanent magnet 4.
and inner permanent magnet 5. there are retaining holes 8. to allowthe U * ** * * I S. sI *5

Page.4 shaped iron permanent magnet backing holder 6. to be fixed on to a non ferrous material outer cover 7. those skilled in the art would know that the material can be iron, but that would minimize the magnetic flux line effect of this invention and increase the weight, by utilizing this invention, plastic, aluminum or a non ferrous material can be used to reducing the weight, and cost of treating the iron against corrosion, the magnetic flux lines in this invention, flow from the energized coil 3, through the permanent magnet, into the U shaped iron permanent magnet backing holder 6. through the inner permanent magnet 5. into the original energized coil 3. that means that instead of having to jump two air gaps for one power stroke, as in Fig.1, in Fig 2. the magnetic flux only has to jump two air gaps for two power strokes, with the obvious improvement in efficiency and torque, the general construction of this invention is shown in Fig.4, with the H shaped energized coil 3, the outer permanent magnet 4, the inner permanent magnets 5, the metal U shaped brackets 6, the U bracket mounting cover rotor 7, U bracket mounting holes 8, U bracket fixing rivets 9, the energized coil fixing rivets 10, the central shaft that the energized coil mounting plate, the energized coils mounted on is fitted 11, the copper windings which are wound around the energized coils 12, the energized coil mounting plate 13, the bearing housing which is part of the U bracket mounting cover and rotates 14, the locking *:*. nuts 15, and the bearings 16, the individual energized coils 3. or the individual U r° bracket 6 assembly can be replaced to speed up maintenance down time, and *:.. ease of repair, this construction method can be used on larger electric motors or * .* * * * S. Page. 5 generators, it has been noted that the effective use of both sides of the energized coil as in US Patent No. 6812615 has demonstrated that the electric motor has a very desirable feature, in that when the electric motor is in use, and under load, if the load is increased to a point that the electric motor slows down in revolutions per minute, there is a corresponding reduction in the amount of amps used to drive the electric motor, an electric motor of this construction draws a low amperage, and cannot be forced to consume the high electric currents of conventional electric motors, when under a heavy load, it also demonstrates that permanent magnets can be used to restrict the flow of electric energy, providing a simple means for electric motor speed control, this improved electric motor configuration can be used on larger size electric motor and generator construction without the need for a lathe, with arms extending from a central point, this will improve cooling of the energized coils and maintain efficiency. * * * * * *
