Abstract

An elongate sheath element 12 for an introducer assembly 10 is described. The sheath element 12 has a flattened configuration e.g. oval, and an internal lumen wall 24 which is non-round in axial cross-section. At least one strengthening element 28 which is non-round in the axial cross-section of the sheath element 12 is provided within the sheath element 12, said strengthening element 28 designed to maintain the internal lumen wall 24 in its non-round configuration.
