Abstract
248,462. Bevan, C. Dec. 4, 1924. Stoppering. - A machine for applying lids to canisters or the like comprises a pair of oppositely rotating registering turrets 10, 11, the turret 10 having recesses 12 to receive the canisters, and the turret 11 having recesses 13 to receive the lids. The recesses 12, 13 co-operate to encircle the canister and lid as they are brought together, whereupon a platform 19 is quickly withdrawn to allow the canister to be raised by a plunger into the lid, or the lid to be lowered on to the canister. The canisters are fed to the machine on a rotating disc 15 associated with fixed guides 16. If a lid is travelling upside down a device 21 falls therein and detains it. Each turret may be made in two overlapping stepped parts. The turrets may be given a sliding movement by a toggle device when the lidding is to be effected.
