Film. evaporators.- In the evaporation of a fluid at substantially atmospheric pressure by contact with steamheated drying-rollers, a pre-heater B for the fluid is arranged above the rollers A. A' and sheets C, C' confine the heated vapour rising from the rollers and direct it into contact with at least one surface of the preheater. The liquid is introduced into the preheater through a pipe b and overflows through pipes c on to the evaporating - sheets and thence to the rollers. A hood D encloses the sheets and an evaporative current of air is induced by a fan or exhauster through a pipe F. The evaporation is further controlled by adjustable baffles H.
