Abstract
A USB drive 2 is securely connected to a user's belt by a cable or chain 4 whose cable retraction mechanism 5 is enclosed in a rigid hollow casing 1. The cable 4 may lock in position once released and the cable retraction mechanism 5 may include a spring loaded wheel or reel. Casing 1 may accommodate the USB drive 2 and may include a belt clip 3 or the USB drive holder device may also act as a belt buckle (6 fig. 7).
Description
Secure USB Drive Holder This invention relates to a device that securely keeps USB drives with the user at all times. Memory sticks or USB drives are popular with users who use different computers. These users tend to leave their storage device behind once they finish, thereby loosing valuable important data.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a retractable flexible thin cable or chain which is securely connected at one end to the back of the USB drive and at the other end to the user's belt, via a retractable cable mechanism enclosed in a rigid hollow shell for safe keeping.
One end of a flexible strong thin cable or chain is connected to the back of the USB drive while the other end is connected to the user's belt so it will always be with the user and not left behind.
Preferably, the cable or chain has a retractable facility.
Preferably, the cable is lockable, once extracted from its housing, to keep the preferred extension.
Preferably a belt clip or other quick release arrangement to the belt is used.
Preferably, for belt clip arrangement, the USB drive is loaded from the lowest side.
Preferably, for belt buckle arrangement, the USB drive can be loaded from any sides of the device.
Three examples of the invention will now be described by referring to the following drawings: -Figure 1 shows a USB drive fully enclosed in its outer shell.
-Figure 2 shows a USB device fully enclosed in its alternative outer shell.
-Figure 3 shows a partly opened USB drive with its' cable attached.
-Figure 4 shows a USB drive with its' cable fully extracted.
-Figure 5 shows a cross section view of inside components.
-Figure 6 shows the USB drive for use as normal without being connected to the user.
-Figure 7 shows a belt bucket as an alternative arrangement.
This device is made of a rigid hallow shell 1 and a memory stick holder 2, figure 1. The hallow shell can be in any shape to accommodate different USB drives as shown in figure 2. One end of a flexible strong thin cable or chain 4 is connected to the back of USB stick holder 2 via any standard secure arrangement. The other end of cable 4 is connected to a spring loaded wheel and locking mechanism housing 5. The housing 5 is securely located inside the hallow shell 1, figures 3 and 5. The shell 1 is connected to the user's belt via a secure connecting facility such as a belt clip 3.
When the USB drive holder 2 is withdrawn from shell 1, cable 4 is pulled and once the pull on cable is released it locks to keep cable's extension, figure 4. To replace the drive back into the shell, first the cable is slightly pulled away from its' housing so the cable lock is released and then retracted.
As figure 6 shows, this device can be used without the need for being connected to the user as well.
An alternative arrangement, seen in figure 7, is to have the USB drive holder device as a belt buckle 6 with any usual connections to the belt 7. The flexible thin cable 4, together with the spring loaded wheel and locking mechanism housing 5, function the same as the one in belt clip device, as explained above.
Claims (1)
- CLAIMS 3 1-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain securely connected at one end to the back of USB drive and also secured at the other end to the user's belt, via a cable retraction mechanism which is enclosed in a rigid hollow casing.2-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to claim 1, in which when the USB drive is pulled out, the cable is easily retracted from its housing and once the pull on it is stopped, the cable locks in position.3-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to claims 1 and 2, in which a spring loaded wheel and locking mechanism used to retract and extend the cable.4-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to the preceding claims, in which the USB drive is inserted from the lowest side of hollow casing.5-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to the preceding claims, in which the rigid hollow case has secure connecting facility to the user's belt.6-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to the preceding claims, in which the whole device can tilt up to 90 degrees in both sides.7-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to claims 1, 2 and 3, in which can act as a belt buckle.8-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to claim 1, 2, 3 and 7, in which the USB drive is inserted into the rigid hollow case from any sides.9-A retractable flexible strong thin cable or chain according to all the preceding claims, in which the outside rigid hollow casing can have any shape to accommodate the USB drive.
