Abstract

A system 1 is disclosed for anchoring a securing device 14 in a bore in a substrate. The system comprises a rupturable container 2 for each of respective mixable components of the system 1, which containers 2 are rupturable together to mix the respective components. Means 8 are provided to hold the respective containers 2 substantially together to enhance mixing of the components when the containers 2 are ruptured.

Description

An Anchorin2 System The invention relates to a system for anchoring a securing device such as a screw, boll, expansion bolt or other like in a substrate.
Such systems often comprise a rupturable container for each of respective mixable components of an adhesive system. Such components can comprise a two part epoxy resin system, one container holding an epoxy resin and the other a hardener for the resin.
The resin system components are kept apart until rupture of the respective containers.
The anchoring system is characterised by means to hold the respective containers substantially together whereby to enhance mixing of the resin components when the container are ruptured.
Such an anchoring system is shown in the drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a front elevation of the system and holding cap before assembly of the containers into an in use mode; Fig 2 shows a side elevation of Fig 1 with a holding cap; Fig 3 shows a front and side elevation of the complete system with two containers and holding cap assembled in the in use mode; Fig 4 shows a perspective view of the system of Fig 3 Fig 5 shows two such systems assembled for use in an extended or extra deep hole in a substrate.
The anchor system 1 shown in the drawings comprises two rupturable containers 2 each of substantially semi-circu'ar cross-section and each being formed in the embodiment by say vacuum forming from a biodegradable material such as PET, or a co-polymer made primarily from PCTFE. The two containers 2 are formed integrally in a one-shot molding process eg vacuum forming and lie end to end being joined by an integral hinge or fold line 3 at a distal end 4. Each container 2 is formed with a continuous lateral flange 5 which also forms means to remove debris or dirt from a bore in which the system is placed in use.
The flanges 5 extend to one end 6 opposite the distal end 4, and have a substantially V-formation groove 7 overlying the respective containers 2. This groove 7 provides a mounting for a holding means 8 such as a cap which has diametrically opposed slots 9 which receive the flanges to hold the containers 2 substantially together, the cap being of less diameter than the lateral extent of the flanges. The cap 8 also has a V-shaped groove complementary to the V-shaped groove 7.
The outer surface of each container 2 has a surface profile such as a series of longitudinally extending ribs 11 which are formed integrally with the containers 2.
a two component epoxy resin system one component is charged into one container and the other into the other container 2. The components are held in their respective containers 2 by retaining means such as a rupturable foil 12 which extends over the inner surface of the respective containers 2, being secured to the inner face of each flange 5.
Notches 13 in the flanges and in the containers enhance rupture of the system in use.
To form the system, the containers 2 are molded to the configuration shown in Figures 1 and 2. The epoxy resin components are then charged into their respective container 2 and the foil or the same material the container 2 is formed from 12 is applied to hold the components in their respective containers. The containers 2 are then folded about the hinge line 3 so that the foils or the same material the container 2 is formed from 12 and flanges 5 lie face to face, substantially parallel and together. The cap 8 is then offered up to the one end and pushed into place with the flanges entering the slots 9, as shown in Figure 4.
To anchor a securing device such as a screw 14, (not to scale in Figure 4) in a substrate, the system of Figures 3 and 4 is inserted into a bore in the substrate, cap 8 uppermost.
The screw is then offered up and screwed into the bore, the V-shaped 10 in the cap providing a guide means. The cap 8 holds the containers 2 face to face and as the screw 14 is screwed into the bore it ruptures both containers 2 to allow the epoxy resin components to mix dynamically as the screw is rotated.
The ribs 11 enhance the rupture and hence break up of the containers 2 as dynamic mixing commences. Moreover, the flanges 5 rotate as the screw is screwed into the bore and assist in removing dust and dirt during the dynamic mixing process, which enhances the hardening of the epoxy resin. The system 1 remains in the bore and secures the screw 14 firmly in position.
Where there is an extended bore two ( or more) systems 1 can he mounted in alignment as shown in Figure 5, a lower part 15 of the flanges 5 forming a "nose" which is received in the V-shaped groove of the cap 8 in the lower system 1. Use to secure a securing device 14 in the bore then proceeds as described above.
