Abstract

A stairlift seatpost is angularly adjusted or levelled by alignment of selected ones of a series of holes 3 arranged along an arc. The seatpost may rotate about a pivot 2 and be secured by one or more bolts through the selected holes 3. The seatpost may also include a pair of blades (5 fig 3) with a series of holes, which blades (5 fig 3) may about stops 6 in the event of bolt failure.

Description

Radial Seatpost Levelling System for Stairlift This invention relates to the levelling of a stairlift seatpost.
The usual method by which the seatpost is levelled is via a slot system. This can result in unwanted rotation around the pivot point when the load on the seat post is great enough.
This results in the user not sitting level with the stairs, which will affect their comfort during travel or in extreme cases could affect safety.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a positive location of securing bolts for the seatpost. Using a radial system, the levelling system can be easily altered to suit the user requirements. Once set, the system ensures the required level is maintained.
The system is also stronger, as the load is spread across a greater area. This also improves the safety of the unit.
The greater pitch between the pivot point of the seatpost and the radial locating bolts leads to the blade' of the design acting as a physical stop should the bolts shear.
In this instance the seatpost would only be allowed to rotate such that it came into contact with physical stops incorporated into the stairlift housing the seatpost.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figures 1 and 2 show the slot method for locating the seatpost.
* Figures 3 and 4 show positive location with radial holes according to the invention.
The bolts are located via the slotting method (1) and tightened to hold the seatpost in place (Figures 1 and 2).
In the proposed invention (Figures 3 and 4), we have a pivot point (2), around which the location is set via the radial spread of holes (3), meaning the bolt is held captive'. The greater pitch (4) of the locating holes contributes to the increased strength of the design, meaning a heavy load will not alter the level set by the engineer at install.
In the event of a bolt failure, the blades (5) of the seatpost will come into contact with the physical stops (6) of the chassis in which the seatpost is mounted, ensuring greater safety for the user.

Claims (2)

  1. Claims 1. A seatpost levelling system for a stairlift, providing location via radial orientation.
  2. 2. A seatpost levelling system according to claim 1, in which the legs, or blades' in which the mounting holes are located, are used as a physical stop with the chassis plates in which the seatpost is situated.
