Abstract

A standard door 1 with a smaller door 3 cut into it. The smaller door can be used by children to gain access to the room without opening the normal door. The bottom of the standard door is reinforced with timber to give rigidity to the door. The children's door may be rebated from the leading edge to prevent the door from being opened against the hinges of the main door. A roller bolt 2 may be provided on the children's door to lock it shut. The door may also have a door knob (6 Fig 2). The inside face of the door could be painted, for example as a castle or fairy door.

An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Fig 1 Shows the Conventional Bedroom door with the childs door recessed into it.The childs door is shown in the open position.
1. indicates the new or existing door blank.
2. indicates the "roller bolt" location, so that the Childs door can remain closed.
3. indicates the Childs door that is to be recessed into the Conventional door.
4. indicates the rebated edge on the Childs door, to prevent the door from opening the incorrect way.
Fig 2 Shows the Childs door in the closed position.
5. indicates the location of the Childs Door.
6. indicates the door knob to enable the child to open from the inside.
Detailed Description.

The small Childs door and the opening left in the existing door are fuiiy lipped on all sides with timber. This creates one door that will sit inside another.
The small door is then hung on hinges in the normal manner.
The small childs door should be hung on the same side that the existing door should be hung.
A rebated edge is cut into the leading edge of then small door, which will act as a door stop, thus preventing the small door from being opened the wrong way.
The bottom of the door is to be strengthened with timber give further rigidity to the door.
