Abstract

A tubular cover for the cord of cord operated items is hygienic, safe and cleanable. The cover can be lengthened using linking pieces (fig 2), can have decorative designs, and can glow in the dark for a time. The cover can include a Braille description (fig 7) of the appliance that the cord switches. The cover can have a cut down its length (fig 3) to allow it to be placed over an existing cord. The cover may be used on the cord of items such as blinds, showers, fans emergency alarms and lights and hinder a person becoming entangled in the cord..

Description

Cord Guard
Background
This invention relates to a cover intended to be used to cover cord which is used to operate items such as showers, extractor fans, emergency alarm calls, lights, blinds etc. At present the cord used can become dirty, unhygienic and dangerous to certain persons. The cover or guard enables a cleanable and safe barrier to complement what is currently used.
Specification/Statement/Advantages/Description
The invention relates to a device designed to cover the cord which is used for the on and off function of appliances and blinds. Due to the nature of the cord used it is hard to keep clean and germ free which in many environments can be dangerous to the health of those who use the items.
Also with regard to blinds, persons can become entangled in the cord which can result in injury. To overcome this I propose my invention will provide a cleanable and more hygienic cover for the existing cord as it is intended to wrap around the cord providing a hygienic and easy to clean barrier without the need to replace the existing cord. The cover will also hinder the ease in which a person can get entangled in the bare cord.
One variation of the cover will also include Braille descriptions of what the cord switches on & off for those that have sight disabilities enabling ease of use in familiar and unfamiliar surroundings. The cover can also be extended as desired for those cords which by necessity have to be longer, enabling an extended barrier.
The basic cover or Cord Guard is of a tubular design (figure 1 attached) with a cut/opening down its length (figure 3 attached) to allow it to be simply placed over the existing cord. Once in place more can be added above or below, as desired to lengthen the cover and they will be linked in place by using the linking pieces (figure 2 attached) which are smaller in length but slightly bigger in width to allow interlocking of the main pieces.
I
Drawings: Examples of my designs/inventions are shown in the drawings attached: Figure 1 shows the basic tubular design Figure 2 shows the linking piece allowing more than one cover to be install and will attach one to the next allowing extensions as required Figure 3 shows the opening of the cover to allow easy installation Figure 4 shows an alternative/variation of design to the basic cover Figure 5 shows the linking piece to complement figure 4 Figure 6 shows the opening of the cover in figure 4 Figure 7 shows a cover which includes Braille descriptions of what it is attached to i.e. shower' in Braille The cover will have several varieties: Basic (figure 1) Braille (figure 7) Glow in the Dark Several alternative designs one of which is shown (figure 4) And come in a range of colours, textures and finishes
