Abstract

An ornament is made from a moulding material incorporating cremation ashes of a deceased person or pet and has a shape appropriate to a memory of the deceased, or reflects some particular characteristic of the deceased. The ornament is thus a permanent and resilient approach to preserving the ashes while providing a lasting memorial. A method for making the ornament involves mixing cremation ashes of the deceased with a moulding material to form a mixture, adding the mixture to a mould by pouring or pressing and allowing the mixture to set or cure. The finished ornament is then released from the mould. The moulding material may be clay, plaster or concrete. A coloured or pigmented material may also be incorporated.

Description

Ornament commemorating the dead
Field of Invention
This invention relates to ornaments, and more particularly to ornaments fabricated from materials including cremation ashes.
Background of the Invention
The fate of Ashes of a pet or loved one following cremation can be actively decided, for example by scattering at a location associated with particular memories, interred in a cemetery, etc, or decided by a more passive approach -left in a jar on a mantelpiece, for example.
Disclosure of Invention
From the foregoing, it may be appreciated that a need has arisen for more creative approaches for the commemoration of a dead friend, relative, pet etc. The present invention is an ornament having a shape appropriate to a deceased person or pet, and fabricated from a moulding material incorporating cremation ashes of the deceased. The ornament is thus a permanent and resilient approach to preserving the ashes while providing a lasting memorial.
The present invention also includes a method for making an ornament to commemorate a deceased person or pet. The method involves mixing cremation ashes of the deceased with a moulding material to form a mixture, adding the mixture to a mould and allowing the mixture to set or cure. The finished ornament is then released from the mould.
Brief Description of Drawings
For a more complete explanation of the present invention and the technical advantages thereof, reference is now made to the following description and the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows example ornaments of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
Embodiments of the present invention and their technical advantages may be better understood by referring to Figure 1, which shows a range of ornaments (100) made from moulding materials containing cremation ashes of deceased person or pet. The ornament of the present invention may have any shape; those illustrated in Figure 1 include cat, dog, horse, rugby ball, tennis racquets, a car, or an Egyptian-style urn.
The present invention also includes a process for making the ornaments. In a first step cremation ashes are mixed with a moulding material to form a homogenous mixture. The moulding material can be any material suitable for pouring or pressing into a mould. Example materials include plaster, concrete or clay. The moulding material can also include coloured materials, such as pigmented materials, to give the ornament a desired colour.
In a second step the moulding material is poured or pressed into a mould.
The mould is chosen by the user to reflect some particular characteristic of the deceased person or pet.
In a third step, the moulding material is left to set or cure, and the ornament released from the mould.
