Abstract

A linked furniture raiser comprises at least two furniture raisers 1, 2, 3, 4 are connected together by linking means, Each of the raisers 1, 2, 3, 4 is attached to a link arm 15, 16, 17, 18, with the link arms attached to a link arm joiner 19 by clamping means 20, 21. The clamping means may be in the form of a wing nut and bolt. The raisers 1, 2, 3, 4 are clipped into raiser retainers 5, 6, 7, 8, which may be released by depression of a retention tab 9, 10, thus allowing them to be removed from the linking arms 5, 16, 17, 18.

Description

A LINKED FURIITURE RAISER
The use of furniture raisers to raise the seating height of furniture is well known. Some such furniture raisers have the raising members linked in order to enhance the stability of the furniture raisers. Fig I shows a typical arrangement of such a set of linked furniture raisers. It is normal for the furniture raiser to be permanently attached to at least one part of the linking member. This arrangement dictates that the furniture raiser cannot be used without fitting all of the linking members. The present invention relates to an arrangement that allows the furniture raisers to be attached or released from the linking members. This arrangement allows the furniture raisers to be used independently or in conjunction with the linking members.
in order that the invention may be better understood reference will be made to the attached figures where: -Fig I shows a three dimensional view of the invention fully assembled and ready to be placed under a piece of furniture.
Fig 2 shows substantially the same view of the invention and with the furniture raisers removed from the linking members.
Fig 3 shows a three dimensional view of one independent furniture raiser clipped into a furniture retainer.
Fig 4 shows substantially the same view as Fig 3 and with the independent furniture raiser removed from the furniture raiser retainer and drawn above it.
Fig 5 shows a more detailed three dimensional view of one of the linking member locking arrangement.
Fig 6 shows a similar view to that in Fig 5 and with the parts exploded to show more detail.
Now referring to the above mentioned figures.
Four independent furniture raisers (1) (2) (3) (4) are clipped into four furniture raiser retainers (5) (6) (7) (8). The independent furniture raisers (1) (2) (3) (4) can be removed from the furniture raisers (5) (6) (7) (8) by depressing the relevant retention tab (9) (10). The other two retention tabs are not shown in the figures.
The independent furniture raisers are retained in the furniture raiser retainers by loading the bottom flange of the independent furniture raiser into the furniture raiser rear retaining slots (11) (12) (13) (14) and clipping the front of the flange under the relevant retention tab (9) (10). The independent furniture raisers can be removed by depressing the relevant retention tab (9) (10).
Each of the furniture raiser retainers is attached to a link arm (15) (16) (17) (18). The link arms are attached to a link arm joiner (19) by clamping means.
The clamping means comprises a wing nut (20) (21) that can be tightened on a bolt (30), Under the wing nut is a top clamp (22), said top clamp having projections (25) (26). The projections (25) are arranged to slide in grooves in each of the two members that make up the link arm. This arrangement ensures that the two members of the link arm do not move apart when the wing nut (21) is tightened. Projections (26) project between the two members that make up the link arm, these keep the top clamp in its correct aligned position when the wing nut (21) is loosened off to make adjustments.
A central clamp (23) is placed between the top two linking members. This clamp (23) has projections (27) (28) that perform similar functions to projections (25) (26).
A lower clamp (24) has projections (29) that perform a similar function to projections (25) (27).
In another embodiment of the invention the method of retaining the independent furniture raiser to the furniture raiser retainer may be of a different design.
in yet another embodiment of the invention the link arm joiner (19) may be removed and the link arms (15) (16) (17) (18) linked directly together.
In a further embodiment of the invention the connection of the link arms may be varied and may be similarly arranged to connect two or more furniture raisers.
Accordingly the present invention comprises a linked furniture raiser comprising at least two furniture raisers linked together by linking means and said furniture raisers being arranged to be removable from the linking means.
